“A lovely and affordable fondue restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2011

I have been to Ars Vini last summer and I really liked it. This lovely restaurant, located in the heart of the trendy district of Prenzlauer Berg, offers a variety of fondues: cheese, meat, chocolate... Quality food, impressive selection of wines and friendly staff.
Gradevole ristorante nel cuore di Prenzlauer Berg. Ottime fondute al formaggio, con carne, frutta o cioccolato. Personale attento e grande selezione di vini.

“Pure culinary enjoyment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

I've been to Ars Vini several times and, although the service has been consistently spotty (too few overworked and seemingly confused servers), after the warm, melted cheesy goodness arrives, it's like a bites of heaven on the end of a long skinny fork coupled with a nice wine. The moderately-priced bottles of wine literally cover the walls and free tastes are offered to find the right wine choice. There are usually several fondue special menus offered and many standard and creative options already on the menu. Tip: just get the classic Swiss fondue with a lovely bottle of dry white wine and enjoy!

Fantastic variety of fondues coupled with a great wine-tasting experience. Lovely location and homey decor. Well worth the price.

“great fondue, somewhat pricey, spotty service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2011

The fondue was very nice, if a bit pricey for the neighborhood in Berlin.

The service left much to be desired. I ordered a side salad as an appetizer, and was surprised to find that the fondue itself came with a side salad. That was an extra 5 euros I didn't need to spend, and neither the waitress nor the menu indicated as such.
Also, when we asked for tap water (which is somewhat frowned upon, but usually granted in Germany when asked), the waitress told us that restaurants in Berlin are not "allowed" to serve customers tap water, or they must pay a fine. This is absurd and untrue. Because I speak fluent German, I'm pretty sure that there was not a language barrier issue.

Also, the bread was served in slices but not chunks (contrary to Swiss practice), leaving us in the rather messy position of breaking off stiff pieces of bread.

Ultimately, this could be a nice place to have a big pot of cheese, but don't expect stellar service, and ask many questions of the menu before ordering!
