“Cries out for soapy water!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2011

Due to candlelight soot and burning incense, the former white walls of the church are dark grey and are in urgent need of a cleaning! Due to candlelight soot and burning incense, the former white walls of the church are dark grey and are in urgent need of a cleaning! The formerly Romanesque church was 1717 ornamented with a rich Baroque facade (J Greising). The parish church of the nearby Benedictine Monastery St. Stephan was destroyed during the night of the bombarderdement in 1945 and rebuilt in1953-54. Rococo pulpit (Wolfgang v.d. Auvera), tombs of the "King of the forge" Johann Georg Oegg, the famous stucco artist Materno Bossi and "Klee-Ulrich" who brought the potato cultivation to Franconia.
