“Excellent location, and...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

The Walfisch Hotel is located just across the River Main offering a breathtaking view if you get a room at the front of the hotel, or when you step out of the hotel. It's within walking distance from the city centre and staff is always ready to help. Room was clean but rather small and with very basic facilities. On the plus side, wi-fi is offered without any extra charge.
Breakfast was a bit limited but adequate.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel.

Highlight
1) nice river view and wonderful location, very close to the castle and walking distance to central
Lowlight
1) room is kind of small, not much facilities
2) Cleanliness is fine but interior is kind of old and worn
3) internet access is free but troublesome to apply account to use
4) little bit over price and not so worth
5) Parking also troublsome as it takes 5 mins walking from the hotel

Room Tip: should always request river facing room

On our way to Prague we landed in Wurzburg by coincidence and found the Walfisch hotel when entering the city center.
The hotel is located on walking distance from the center and directly opposite the fortress. Though we had no reservations and they were quite busy we were offered a nice room with view on the castle. Hotelstaff was friendly and the room , though not too spacious, had good quality beds and a small but adequate bathroom.
Breakfast was excellent. There is parking space in a small courtyard across the street and the fee is very reasonable.
After some shopping we visited the well restored and spectacular palace. Donot leave Wurzburg without having spent some time there. Unfortunately we were too early in the year for the palace gardens but that will be part of our next visit.
The Hotel is relatively expensive as compared to a 5 star hotel in Prague we stayed in the days thereafter.

Room Tip: Ask for castle view.

Hotel Walfisch is a small hotel with an aged look. The nicest thing is that it is located at the river Main, just across from the fortress and the vineyards, so the view is great, but that is it, for the most part. The rooms are small and furnished in 90's or 80's stile, clean but worn. The bathroom was smelly and the beds not that comfy. The reception is partly staffed by the waiters from the Walfisch restaurant, so if they are busy with service, you wait your turn. You can tell that time is standing still here, when you discover that they sell last years calendar in their little gift selection. The restaurant is decent, but so are many other restaurants in this lovely town.

Our room had a magnificent view of the castle especially at night when it was lit up. The hotel is very nice, clean but could do with some updates. The bed was comfortable, however the pillows were lacking. Parking is available, at a cost, and easily accessible. The hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to the castle, shopping and restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the castle so worth while.

We based our choice for this hotel on some reviews. Welcome at reception desk was not vey friendly. The rooms were not very large but clean, we didn't like the 1990s look, though. We had dinner at the restaurant : food was well cooked. The breakfast buffet was (too) small, but the service was friendly there.

Based on other reviews, I switched my choice of hotel and was disappointed. I am a seasoned American traveler. I requested a view of the fortress and air conditioning. The view was of the side street, the room a single bed and the shower aparatus was broken , the TV didn't work and the air conditioning was not the best. Also for breakfast, much of the choices were gone by the time I came down which was still 45 min prior to closing in the morning. I could have accepted all that given the charming city, but it was the cool reception I received throughout my stay that was most disappointing. Not a place I would return.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the fortress
