“many services available, but not wi fi free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

In line with Novotel quality; some services are also available with very good quality: pool, sauna, restaurant
Wi fi connection is available in all rooms, but not free. The rate is too high, and this is not acceptable in comparison with the room rate paid
Almost well located; 15 minutes walking from city center

We made a mess of finding this hotel. We should have exited the train station, walked to the first main road, crossed it, gone left, walked past a sort of roundabout called Berliner Platz and turned right onto Ludwigstrasse. It is around 10 minutes walk from the station.

The reception was quite busy both when we checked in and out. Staff were pleasant and friendly.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. It had a safe, a minibar that you could use as a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The bed was very comfortable. The air-con in the room worked well. The room was very quiet at night.

The hotel had an indoor swimming pool, which although small was really lovely for a quick, relaxing dip. It also had a sauna, which I did not use.

This hotel is conveniently located for sights and for the main train station. I would love to stay here again for longer.

My wife and I spent one night in the hotel on our way to our final vacation destination.
(Nothing says vacation like splitting up your trip into manageable pieces).

The good:
The hotel is reasonably well located in the city, everything is in comfortable walking distance.
The room was large and very quiet, I had requested a quiet room in my online reservation.
Check-in and check-out service was friendly and correct, we felt very much welcome in the hotel.

The bad:
The room was not perfectly clean (some stains on the carpet)
The bathroom was not properly cleaned, hair in the shower - yuck!!!

The Breakfast:
was a disappointment with harassed looking personnel that avoided eye contact which made it that much more difficult to ask somebody for fresh coffee
Bread was freshly thawed out and tasted like no fresh bread will ever taste. Luckily.
We saw the "make your own fresh fruit juice" too late. It would have been worth the considerable effort of having to cut your own oranges, considering the alternative.
All in all, the food had a plastic(y) taste and was a stressful event. (Not what I want a holiday breakfast to be like)

The verdict:
The staff tried hard, but was hopelessly overloaded with a fully booked hotel.
The room cannot keep up with 4-star quality on such cleanliness level
The food was a disappointment. Reminded me too much of the food you get on the German highway. It's all clean and very hygienic and tastes lifeless.

On our next stay (which the city more than deserves) we will look for an alternate location and I will be more careful when choosing Novotel in the future.

The Novotel Würzburg did not do so well in guest reviews so we were expecting the worst. We had booked it since we were only stopping one night in Würzburg and because of my loyalty card with Accor. We should have bothered about the loyalty card of Accor since Accor lately changed its terms and conditions and now excludes all stays that are booked through on-line booking sites (such as booking.com or expedia.com) from rewards accrual. Good to know if you consider opting for Accor to earn points. At any rate when we arrived the hotel we were swiftly checked in by friendly reception staff. The hotel is located in a quiet street and has an underground parking lot. The lobby is spatious and opens to the bar and restaurant area. At the back of the bar area is an outdoor quiet terrace. The restaurant menu looked decent in terms of choices but – as so often is the case in hotels – overpriced. You’re deifintely cheaper off outside the hotel. The restaurant is in a pastiche Bavarian beer-stube style which is mainly (unintentionally?) funny. The bar looked cozy enough. We were given a corner room (212). These rooms have more natural light thanks to the additional windows and are considerably more spatious. The bathrooms are larger as well. The room was in the predictable Novotel style: practical but pleasant. General cleanliness was sufficient. The room was very quiet. The bathroom looked rather clinical but had everything one would expect. Upon check-out we could look into the standard rooms and these are considerably smaller. In general we found this an acceptable, satisfactory, standard hotel at walking distance (20 minutes) from the historic center of Würzburg.

Room Tip: corner rooms are considerably more spatious

Spent two nights in this hotel after picking up our rental to drive the Romantic Road of Germany. Hotel is well located, rooms are nicely furnished and breakfast was outstanding. We left our car parked and walked 10 minutes into the center of city because it was easy and close. Nice italian restaurant along the way. Free wifi available in the lobby.

The property is reasonably well situated; 5-10 minutes to the Residenz, a bit further to other points of interest. There is only one restaurant in the immediate area. The reception is standard mid grade international. The corridors are a convoluted maze, smelling strongly of cleaning material. My single room was small and awkwardly configured with a low end IKEA type large built in closet/minibar in the middle of the room. Amenities were minimal even by European standards, with the standard bottle of goop tacked to the wall and something purporting to be an all inclusive hair product being about it, except for the 4.90 bottle of water.
Novotel seem to be an a la carte type chain, a trend that fortunately is slowly disappearing in Germany, and if you don't park, email or eat breakfast, they are reasonably priced. Be cautious, the bill can soon add up, particularly with the mediocre overpriced breakfast.
Perhaps the extra star comes from the spa in the basement entered through the car park. I declined.

I have stayed here on business numerous times.
Nice quiet, bar, garage, even a spa.

This time had the wife with me and after spending a day walking around we came back to clean up for dinner.
We were locked out of our room.

Went downstairs to be told we only had a one night reservation.
Made it for two online, but when confirming a late check in due to a train issue, they somehow mucked it up.

So we scrammbled to another hotel I wanted to stay at anyway.

They were having issues though, they turned away a family that had the reservation paperwork in hand........

Probaley won't stay here again.
