“Great spot for wine and cheese”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

We went to juliusspital twice. The first time was around 8:00pm. We had hiked the entire town and were looking for a place to enjoy something light. Out waiter was wonderful. Our waiter was able to translate some of the menu for us. We had some Silvaner with a cheese plate. Great time.

We wnt back on New Years eve. The kitchen was a bit rushed. While we enjoyed the wine, the meal was not quite so good. We both had goose breast. It was a bit dry. The service was just as good and friendly as the first time, but for a full meal I would recommend the Burgaspitel.

“1576 Foundation relief of the old main portal remained”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2011

Prince-Bishop Julius von Mespelbrunn founded the hospital named after him. Of the 1576 Renaissance building (architect G Robin), on the soil of the Jewish cemetery, remained just the foundation relief of the old main portal, present hanging in the passage of the garden to the courtyard. After the bombattack in 1945 the main building collapsed completely, reconstruction lasted until 1953. The oldest buildings are the original tithe barn, the 1705-1714 built Garden Pavilion was used until 1853 as anatomical theatre. 1706 Baroque Fountain (Jacob van der Auvera). On the ground floor one of the most beautiful rococo pharmacies of Germany with unique original furnishings. The Juliusspital was simultanious nursing home, hospital, orphanage with school as well as pilgrims Inn. It was closely connected with the medical faculty of University Würzburg that did not have a clinic for a long time. Excellent doctors worked overthere, such as: surgeon Karl Kaspar von Siebold, anatomist Albert von Kölliker and pathologist Rudolf Virchow.
