“Clean, basic rooms with free WiFi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

The rooms are basic but clean and functional (they are reminiscent of student accomodation). The Pension is well located at a stone throw from the train station. It is situated above a pub; I have not been disturbed by the noise, but be aware that earplugs might come handy on weekend nights. The bathroom is shared, but clean.

This place is misleading! The building is a dodgy 5 story building, with rooms to rent only on the 2nd and 5th floor, the rest being rented to students. The rooms are only cosmetically renovated to look more like hotel rooms, with no attention to detail. The rest of the building feels cluttered, student house atmosphere, not private.

We had a room on the top floor (which is in the roof part), and there was an "old" smell in the room, a typical dusty/old building smell. The mattresses were not good, one was sort of good and hard, the other thin and you could touch the planks of the bed while sleeping, thus hard to sleep well. Bathroom also old/student house feel to it, not comfortable.

Breakfast coupons a rip off. Breakfast consisted of sandy scrambled eggs, stale tomato and cucumber slices, cheap cheap jam/jelly, poorly baked white buns, bad coffee. I understand why they sold those ahead of time, because nobody would go to Cheers once they got closer to the place, it doesn't look like a nice place. On the same street, on the way walking to Cheers you see at least 3 cafes that serve much nicer breakfasts with proper coffees, croissants, jam, etc. The bar 'Haus de 150 bier 'is also NOT open in the morning so you cannot complain about the coupons, especially if you're staying there 1 night and want to leave in the morning.

The bar on the ground floor was nice, good drinks, even nice hamburgers/pizza. I would recommend the bar, but not the pension and not Cheers cafe. Also, very loud on the streets at night, don't know why but there were people yelling in the streets. No loud music or discomfort from the bar, I think no problem also with the student houses in the building, but on the actual street ?? And we could hear these people till late at night 3-4 am, from the 5th floor!! Management has to really work harder to improve this place since it's really charging too much for what they offer !!

This is a hostel, but no shared community space. It sits over the House of 150 Beers, so it's just a few rooms and 2 shared baths.

Pluses: at 49E for a double, very reasonable; clean; walking distance to Old Town and Residenz; they give you gummy bears with your linens!!!; over a very cool beer house
Minuses: Weird Japanese decor; no real staff; no breakfast; felt like a college dorm; no free parking.

If you are looking to beat the Euro in Germany, and you don't mind shared bath facilities, this place is a pretty good bet. All furnishings seemed pretty new, and it was squeaky clean and very safe.
