We arrived at the Altfrankische Weinstube hungry and exhausted from delayed flights and three train rides - total of 25-hrs in transit. We booked here on the recommendation of family who had stayed here and Trip Advisor ratings. Carmen, one of the employees was working in the re staurant and came out to check us in. The restaurant was closing but she managed to get us in for dinner, which was, we think, one of the best we have ever had. It sure hit the spot and the cold beers and the potato soup was awesome. We were joined at our table by to American travelers who we had met on the train and decided to see if the hotel had a spot for them as well. They did and were very pleased with their accomodations. We were booked in the Guest House down the street (easy walk to hotel) because they had no rooms in the hotel available for 3 when we booked. PROS: The Guest House was wonderful. We had the top floor (up two flights of steep steps) which had two large bedrooms and a hall bath, and small closet area in the hall. We were the only guests staying there for the two nights and we wondered if it would have been noisy (or we would have made a lot of walking noise) for people on the second floor. The ground floor had a VIP sitting area that was very nice. It had a large couch, tv, bar area and was a nice addition to hanging out in the rooms. The breakfast was excellent, and again, a dinner here one night a must. The hotel is located on a quiet back street but within easy walking distance to everything. Carmen was the only bright spot as far as personnel goes. We found the owners to be somewhat aloof, and not very helpful - almost felt we were intruding when we tried to ask a question. Definitely not the warm gracious type.
CONS: Owners - not inviting.
BE SURE you have plenty of Euros on hand, because while they took our credit card for a down payment, they expected cash upon departure. We had to scramble to an ATM to get money before we left, and were on a tight schedule to catch a train. This is something they did not share ahead of time.
There is no wi-fi in the guest house. You have to go to the main building lobby.
Take the cab from the train station if you have luggage. Not necessarily an easy walk with luggage.
