“Enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We had two nights at Rothenburg and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Nothing to complain about, clean, nice breakfast with fresh breads and good service, would like to stay again. The wifi was adequate for our needs.

The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the train station and is in a perfect location, right next to the Plonlein Tower. Robert is very nice and accomodating. It is a shame that many of these hotels lock up their outside chairs to the tables after 10 pm. Are there thieves in Rothenburg? Also, it is true that breakfast was just ok and there are alot of stairs to climb with the luggage. Nevertheless, it is a cute hotel and they make you feel very much at home. As far as other hotels go, it was the right decision not to stay at a hotel near the train station. It was far more convenient to be where all the action was. It is a short five minute walk to Rathaus from cafe Uhl. Staying closer to the Rathaus ( Eisenhut, Markusturm etc..)would have been a shorter walk from the train station but not much shorter, maybe 2 or 3 minutes. Actually, it is a longer walk to Hotel Schranne, which is suppose to be one of the best hotels in the town. So I would say that this hotel is still one of the best choices since it is right in the city center. It is also a five minute walk to see the Night Watchman's Tour.

Stayed one night in Rothenburg. Booked hotel cafe uhl. Room was tiny on the very top floor, lots of stairs. Had to park 200 metres away. Breakfast was average. Wifi is a joke, does not work in rooms. As we discovered there is not a lot to do in Rothenburg, so i would visit another city next time

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

the room was very large and had a kitchenette with loads of coffee, tea and spices for any cooking. we parked the rented car right outside the room in the enclosed "garage". wifi was included. breakfast was served in the cafe and it was very satisfying with fresh breads right from their bakery.
(garbage was laying for 2 days outside the room in some six bags with flies enjoying the many options...not sure though if this is a city issue or not.)

Room: My wife and four month old baby stayed in room 1 and paid 88€ per night including breakfast and parking. The room would have been ok for two adults, but by the time you throw in a cot and all the baby’s stuff, it was absolutely cramped – we had to continuously walk over our stuff. The bathroom was small – you could sit on the toilet whilst washing your hands in the basin! The room was clean and the beds were comfortable.

Hotel: Robert spoke perfect English and was very friendly, polite and obliging. He waited until around 9pm for us to arrive, which was relieving – nothing worse than getting somewhere and finding reception to be closed. This is more of a café with a hotel, rather than a hotel with a restaurant. Breakfast is a basic buffet of breads, pastries, cold meats and cereals – not a huge selection but enough to satisfy you. Free wifi was available.

Location: The hotel is located metres away from one of Rothenburg’s most photographed locations, on the main street. The location is simply unbeatable! There is a Chinese restaurant two doors down which does takeaway for late arrivals. There are also countless restaurants on the way to the main town square which a short five minute stroll (or a brisk 3 minute walk). Rothenburg is extremely safe.

Tip: The hotel has two off-site (50m away) car parks, so be sure to reserve one if needed.

Final Comment: A nice, relaxed place to stay. I’d be back but would request a bigger room.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room

Location can't be beat. Right inside the walls of the medieval town. Great bathroom just renovated. Room was very nice, spacious and clean. We had a view of the street. Breakfast was good. you can walk everywhere, is close to center and lots of shops and restaurants. I wish we stayed more than one night. The staff was very helpful and parking very easy. Some stairs, no elevator.

A quaint little hotel in a perfect location in Rothenburg--right by the Plönlein tower/gate. You can walk to the center of town in 5-10 mins (speed dependent!). Rooms were standard for European hotels, and the bathrooms were very nice and seemed recently renovated. The breakfast was a good, European standard one with sliced meats, cheeses, breads, jams, and 3-5 min eggs. Very good coffee, which separates it from most! Family owned and operated, they all make sure that all is in order--especially Robert. When we got there, a lady walked in the rain to show me parking (even though it was just through the gate and to the left). A superb value and very nice people!
