This is a property with a very fine Michelin worthy restaurant, a second restaurant (The Blau Sau) and charming rooms (if you choose properly...I will get back to that). It also has some very fine staff (hello Kathi) and the owner/chef is wonderfully accessible and personable. He alone is a wonderful reason to return here...such an interesting man. The internet access is excellent and this alone is very unusual for most hotels in these historic citites.
Now, to the rooms. Each room is individually decorated and the amenities vary. I do not recommend room 73 for more than a single night stay. While it is a nice size room, it is showing its age and has limited space for storing your belongings. It could use some artwork on the walls and a chest in which to store clothing. It also has a VERY small desk so it is not suitable for someone who needs working space. I would recommend a remodel on this room. On the other hand, rooms 71, 72 and 36 are quite lovely (as are others on the same hallway as 36) and are on the backside of the hotel which I believe to be much more quiet at night.
We spent some wonderful evenings in the small lounge attached to the Blau Sau and also on the patio outside the loftier Mittermeier staying as late as midnight with no complaint from the staff who continued to take perfect care of us regardless of the time.
A very relaxed atmosphere, nice wine and excellent food...wonderful.
Note for Americans - there are no air conditioned rooms here to my knowledge so avoid the warmer months.
