“Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

Great hotel in a great location.

Rothenburg is a lovely city and the Hotel fits in just lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful making sure we found a decent car parking space. There is no Hotel car park so parking is on the street which wasn't a problem as we were out of season.
Rooms were lovely clean and cosy. We stayed in a family room which was laid out with plenty of room. WiFi access not great but wasn't really expecting it be great in such an old building.

An evening meal wasn't available, I think due to us staying at a quiet time but we were given directions to other restaurants so it wasn't a big issue.

We paid the extra for the breakfast which was fine with a decent selection and good service.

For central location this hotel is an excellent choice.

We came to Rothenburg by train, and had no difficulty walking to the hotel, which could not be more convenient in the centre of the old town. The Jakobskirche and Reichsstadtmuseum are both within a few yards. Claudia is a very welcoming hostess who goes out of her way to make her guests comfortable. The room was warm, clean and comfortable, and the breakfast excellent. Prices are very reasonable for such a touristy town. WiFi access is in the lobby only, and even then not totally reliable, but in every other way the hotel was perfect.

This hotel is within the city wall. Parking not so great, but we didn't have a problem, Claudia the hotel owner walked down the street a couple of blocks to make sure we found parking! The rooms were small, but quaint, decorated beautifully. Rooms have everything you need, clean, clean, clean. This hotel is 600 years old and in excellent shape. The owners are VERY friendly, and speak good English. Breakfast was a very nice typical European breakfast with added jellies and goodies. You are in for a wonderful treat, do it, it is worth it!

Room Tip: Keep in mind there is no elevator.

The hotel provides small rooms, friendly service, a good breakfast, a convenient location, in a historic Rothenburg building. Parking can be very difficulty here, if you don't mind walking a bit, I suggest you consider parking in the large parking areas outside the town wall and walking to the hotel. The Schwarzer Adler is a dream location for walkers and runners... take a right out of the front door and walk out of the ancient gate around the town or into the beautiful German countryside. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful. As an adventurous traveler on the move, I enjoyed our experience in the historic Schwarzer Adler - it is priced fairly for the location and accomodations.

Room Tip: For those with mobility challenges, the stairways to rooms can be many and tight

Within the walls of Rothenburg. Spent two nights there during the Christmas holidays. Rothenburg was really dressed up for the event. Lots of festivals going on and lots of partaking of the spirits. COLD but no snow.

Staff was exceptional...we had someextra candy we brought from Texas and gave it to one of the owners at the desk when we checked in. Really good service and recognition by our name when we came in.

Room was typical 600 year old room that had been refurbished. Very nice and VERY quite. Warm and clean...couldn't ask for much more.
Breakfast was typical European but very nice and pletiful. Coffee needed some help but other than that great...
Stay there again...yep

Room Tip: Ask to see your room prior to checking in...very common...

Picked this hotel because of its great location within the ancient city walls. Very impressed. The rooms were clean and atmospheric and although dated, this added something to the experience ( after all it is a 600 year old building). The owner was warm, helpful and very friendly and the breakfast was amazing. We hope to return very soon

We (a family with a small child) stayed for one night at this lovely, family-run B&B. We loved everything about it: the decor in our room was very authentic, reminiscent of the beginning of the 19th Century hotel rooms as they are portrayed in the movies (e.g. the Grimm Brothers etc), with lots of wood, large, soft down pillows and duvets, and a mini alcove adding to the charm of the sloped attic walls and small windows. The bathroom was functional with a great shower (almost a Vichy shower). The staff was very pleasant and welcoming. The room was priced below most properties in the city and I doubt that they would be better than this one, so this was a great value. Rothenburg itself is not to be missed, it is a little gem and a highlight of our Germany trip.
