“We would come back again and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

This hotel is what i call Old World charm set in a city so full of history. A hotel filled with antiques in nooks and crannies gives it a special look. The owner Linda is most friendly, helpful and hospitable. The young staff are all English speaking and accommodating. All these gave us a real warm and welcome feeling being there.
The suite we were in was tastefully decorated and the spacious bathroom with tub and shower won me over. The special touches that Linda provided in our living area for Valentine`s night and the romantic setting of the bathroom with red rose petals and candles added the most winning aspect of this hotel!
We would come back again and again!

Rothenburg odt is a great medieval town to visit. Be prepared though if you go in February, that about 1/2 of the shops are closed for vacation. There still were many shops open and we spent about 4 hours touring the town one afternoon. The Markustrum is centrally located in the heart of the town. The staff are all very helpful and speak excellent English. Other pluses to note:

1. Parking is close...just a few blocks away.
2. Our room (107) was HUGE. It had a very large sitting area, twin beds pushed together, and a very large bathroom. The beds were very comfortable.
3. Leave the key at the desk when out...it is heavy!
4. Breakfast included was very plentiful. Fresh brewed tea (leaves) was amazing.
5. We ate dinner at the hotel both nights and it was delicious. The wait staff was more than willing to make the few substitutions we requested.

We would not hesitate to stay again. You will not be sorry.

Rothenburg odt is a delightful little medieval town, a bit touristy, but worth the trip. I wanted to stay relatively close to the historic parts of town and found this nice little place that was just a bit more expensive than other cheaper places outside the town walls, but had a feeling this was worth the few extra Euros. I arrived just after (early) dusk on a cold snowy January evening - in my rental car. Driving into town is a little confusing as the roads suddenly become cobblestone (you drive through the medieval town archways!) and small / windy. After a short detour, I found the way to Rodergasse (one of the main 'small' streets) and was welcomed by the friendly staff who all speak excellent English and are very willing to help out. There was convenient parking (for a few Euros) offered by the hotel a short block or so up the side-street.

The most amazing thing about this lovely hotel is not just its location (it is about a block walk up the street to the main central square of Rothenburg - which is a great convenience) but its location basically in/at the Markus tower - the most beautiful tower/archway entry to the city. Actually, many of the most romantic famous postcards of the town feature this archway (and so the hotel in the foreground) - literally the hotel is picture-postcard-perfect!

The interior is decorated in a medieval manner, exposed wood beams, brick walls (not for show - but all actually because this is an ancient building) - and the rooms are simple but with modern updates (you have to climb stairs). This was one of the best beds and bathrooms I found on my trip through Germany. The room keys are old-school heavy and best left at the front-desk when you leave to walk around town!

Breakfast was included in my rate - and was also the best I found throughout my trip. Not only were there fine breads, meats, and yoghurts/granola to sample in the lovely little dining area - but eggs made-to-order as well as coffee or tea, fresh-brewed. I didn't eat again till dinner-time! Even better was having dinner at the restaurant (same dining-area) - one of the 2 best meals I had in Germany. Local cuisine, reasonably priced, in a warm medieval dining room (and pleasant attentive service). The white-wine soup was warming with a haus-bier on hand! My entree of spinach was fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, no room for local dessert.

Overall - this was my favorite hotel out of 5-6 on this trip (not the cheapest but still good value for money compared to most places in the USA). I would highly recommend a stop-over in Rothenburg if you're touring the Romantic Road - and consider staying at this delightful gem of a "bed-and-breakfast" style but high-class hotel.

We had booked 8 months ahead and asked for a room featured in the on-line brochure. This was confirmed by e-mail. Upon arrival they took our heavy bags up to our room and parked our car. So far so good, until we entered the room and very were disappointed to find ourselves in a large but slightly shabby, 50's style room. It was certainly spacious for such an old building, but not the pretty room we saw on the net. Moving was not possible as the hotel was full. I was able to show the front desk the confirmation e-mail re the Empire style room and apologies were offered. They also offered to move us the next day. However with lots of luggage already unpacked we were disinclined to do it all again.
That evening we dined in-house and the food was homey and flavoursome. Our choice of wine was duplicated by way of an apology and sent to our room.
The location of the hotel could not be better as it is a short walk from anywhere in town and the staff are friendly and helpful. Perhaps our days of shabby chic are just well and truly over.Lots of small children and thin walls could also prove problematic.

After reading reviews on this location, we figured it was a perfect place to spend our New Years. We wanted a quiet and relaxing holiday with the opportunity to have dinner and drinks then get some sleep and explore the city more in the morning. The Silvester party at the hotel was only open to those that wanted to pay an extra 120 euro per person. This included dinner and drinks for the night. With my wife being pregnant, she did not want to eat what was on the menu and could not, of course, have her fill of drinks. We opted for an amazing chinese food restaurant down the street. Upon return for me to have drinks and enjoy the party, we were told that all the tables were filled and we could have drinks sent up to our room. They would not even allow us to stand at the empty bar tables and listen to the music. So, we called to have drinks and dessert sent up to the room only to find out they were not serving desert at that time to the rest of the guests. Did not even ask for drinks at that point. We spent our night, watching the party in Berlin and counting down the new year. Neither of us were able to sleep due to the party downstairs going on until 3am, and the cleanup lasting until roughly 430. Upon checkout the 120/person was on our bill and we felt that they thought we were trying to scam out of paying for the previous night of food and booze. We were not charged for that. But we were charged extra from the final price on the room we reserved for breakfast and parking. One of the staff parked our car for us down the street in a free parking area. Was nice to easily show up and have the valet service available. There are several other hotels that were trying to get us to come in for dinner as we walked by and they certainly did not want us to just celebrate in our room. Also, while laying in bed the whole night, we felt as though bugs were crawling on us... probably just our imagination sleeping in an unfamiliar place. The rest of the room was very clean and comfortable. All in all, we left exhausted and did not want to do any walking around the amazing city after we checked out. Will have to make the 3 hour drive again to see everything.

We were looking for a nice place to enjoy a weekend to visit the famous Christmas market in Rothenburg and this place was priced as a great deal. Additionally they accepted our two dogs without any issues, which is a must for us. To top it off they have a well reviewed restaurant and complete breakfast. We were offered an apartment about 100 meters from the hotel with private parking. This was perfect for us as we like a little privacy. The only complaint is that the apartment could use a little freshening up. There were multiple spots were paint was chipping and there was an ashtray that had not been emptied outside. Other than that, the hotel was great. Service was exceptional and for he most part we felt at home.

We absolutely loved the hotel. It's quaint and charming, and you just can't help but slow down and relax. The staff is outstanding. They helped us with dinner reservations, hauled our very heavy luggage up and down the stairs and made sure we knew all about the Nightwatchman Tour. We also had dinner there one night and it was one of the best meals we had during our vacation. Wonderful German comfort food - with excellent Franconian wine.

We stayed in Rm 128 - which is a family room, with a king size bed and 2 couches/beds. The bathroom was huge with a shower and separate bathtub.
