“Best breakfast ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014

Apart from the breath-taking location of Fussen, being a 5 minutes drive to neuschwanstein castle, and at the tip of the romantic road, plus very close to Zugspitze. Hotel Sonne is a gem in the heart of all this!

To cut a long story short... room is amazing... clean, superbly decorated, very spacious, double glazing windows to eliminate the "noise" coming from the outside tranquillity of Fussen, nice TV, blinds which can blackout the room, bathroom which has both a walk-in shower... and a bath!

Staff are very helpful! Even one time suggested that we would not take the drive to Zugspitze given the bad visibility.

Breakfast was one of the best ever I had taken.

In brief... Hotel Sonne is faultless.

Unfortunately we could spend only one night in Fussen, but we want to go back!!
The hotel is in a pedestrian area in this beautiful old Bavarian town and is worth a stay for a number of days to fully appreciate the town and surrounding region.
Hotel service is exceptional and it has an excellent restaurant with a good menu for dinner as well as a superb breakfast buffet. The bedrooms were a little small but well equipped and comfortable,.
overall a very pleasant experience.

I know that reviews should be about the hotel and not individuals, but we all know that Front Desk Staff is the first face we see at the hotel and many times that impression is a key one. In our case we stayed at the Sonne for one night on a typical drive-through visit to Neuschwanstein Castle. The Hotel has a fantastic location (although Fussen is not very big anyway), with very practical car parking. We got welcomed in a very friendly and professional way, clear and useful explanation of the facilities, information on the city before even asking it. And we got upgraded although we were not recurrent guests. Overall the hotel offers very nice rooms, yet not spectacular, with free (yet slow) wifi. What is amazing is the buffet breakfast, a true must. We did not try gym/sauna although they are part of the facility. The hotel replicates very elegant local style, without overdoing and turning into a museum (such as some local restaurant.....) Very good price/quality but again, from the desk staff to the restaurant we noted a fantastic team. By the way, many thanks to Sebastian, our first face at the Sonne. Great job!

This hotel was incredible in the best possible way! Our room and bath were both quite large. In fact, the bath was large enough to include a tub AND a separate shower! When's the last time you saw that in a hotel? Everything was so clean that it looked brand new. Service was wonderful, as was the breakfast buffet. Location was convenient to everything. Put this hotel at the top of your list, then cross out all the others!

Good friendly service. Bathroom was somewhat small, however, all hotels in Europe are like that, unless you are staying in an American chain hotel. The breakfast was amazing, they do not skimp on anything, where would you get freshly squeezed orange juice in a breakfast included place. The breakfast buffet will put buffet at Bellagio and Wynn in Las Vegas to shame.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting the castles in Hohenschwangau. The hotel really got us in the mood for visiting the castles. Throughout the hotel there was perfect attention to detail. We stayed in a themed room on the first floor which had a lot of interesting touches.
The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient and gave the impression that they would be willing to help with anything.
We ate in the restaurant on our first night and were served traditional German fare. The portions were generous and the food very good. We were also given vouchers for free aperitifs before our meal which was a nice touch.
There was plenty of choice in the breakfast buffet including hit and cold food and cakes. You could even help yourself to sparkling wine as well as the usual juices.
I would not hesitate to return to this fairy tale hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a themed room.

We were not the ones who made the reservation so we were quite please to see that hotel. It was just beautiful. The room was very nice and comfy. It is a very modern hotel compared to smaller gasthof, who have a more "authentic german" vibe. However, the service was great. We were even able to check-in in French. The food was just amazing and so good. Great central location, close to the train station.
