“Good comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

A very comfortable stay. We stayed in the Empress Sisi themed room. The dressed mannequins in the hallways were a little frightening at first, but they grow on to us.

Pros: Good sized, clean rooms complete with amenities, bathrobes and slippers. The staff are very friendly. And a very impressive buffet breakfast.

Cons: Rooms are on the cold side, even though we cranked the heater up to the max of 22c. We experienced loud noise in the middle of the night. On our first night, it sounded like someone was trying to fix the plumbing system. On our second night, someone was slamming doors.

Tips: Book underground parking ahead of time if you are driving.

We stayed two nights at Hotel Sonne. Room was clean and tidy. The interesting decor was the mannikins located throughout the hotel dressed in various costumes. Apparently the costumes were acquired from a local, defunct theater company. A very nice change from the usual hotel corridor and lobby. Breakfasts were the best on our ten day trip. A very friendly front desk and we liked the hotel dog, too.

We had two light meals at the small hotel bar during our stay because we found the bar menu more interesting than the restaurant! Good food.

This was on the more expensive side in comparison to other hotels we stayed in during our 2 week stay in Germany. However I didn't regret the money at all. The service was outstanding with complimentary Internet & juice in lobby. The breakfast buffett was delicious and huge! Location was great. Loved the historic town and only 10 minutes drive to neuschwanstein castle.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The parking was a bit frustrating, but once we checked in everything was fine. The beds were ok. We were able to connect to free Wi-Fi. The buffet breakfast in the morning was a good way to start the day.

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Sonne for 4 nights and used it as a base to explore some of the nearby Bavarian Castles. The stay was excellent.

The Hotel is family operated which means there are some unique features and some nice extra touches. We liked the quirky paint-job in the underground car park and appreciated the little good-bye gifts at check out. The Hotel has it's own identity with a unique décor but still retains an established and professional feel throughout. All of the staff we met (including the owner in the lift one morning) were welcoming, warm and pleasant.

The room was very modern, relaxing, large and clean. The bed and linen were also very comfortable. There was a nice looking sauna next door to the room but we ran out of time to spend a session there. The Hotel is well located in the centre of Fussen town, which was lovely to walk around and surprisingly good for shopping. There is limited (but well managed) car parking available at the Hotel which we reserved prior to arrival. I'd certainly recommend booking ahead for this.

We really enjoyed the selection and quality available at breakfast. The dining room for this was also pleasant and well staffed. We used the bar restaurant at the front of the Hotel one evening and enjoyed some great pizza and excellent beer.

I strongly recommend the Hotel : )

I must admit, when I first arrived in Fussen I thought I'd arrived in a Disney film, and this hotel carried on the illusion! Fussen is a beautiful, friendly town, and utterly authentic - the medieval Old Town is as picturesque as you could find anywhere in the world, right down to the incredible paintings on the buildings - really stunning.

So, back to the hotel. Excellent, friendly service from the staff. I got the impression they would help with anything if it was possible. The front of house people were the friendliest I have ever come across, and it appeared genuine.

The room we had was very good, very spacious and had a really comfortable bed and a balcony. The toiletries were stocked up each day, which is not always the case nowadays. We had our dog with us as well, and he was made very welcome. He wasn't allowed in the restaurant, but that was fine by us.

Breakfast was a vast affair, plentiful and with everything you'd expect from a German hotel - meats, cheeses etc, along with the muesli and fruits. We didn't eat in any of the restaurants simply because there is so much choice in Fussen, and it was nice to explore the town in the evening.

The hotel decor is eccentric, but that is its selling point - some rooms I believe are more so than others! Ours was fairly standard, but the displays along the halls and corridors and the interesting lift certainly make it a bit of a one-off! It's lovely. Will definitely stay again if we're in the area. And don't worry about taking children, they seem very welcome.

Room Tip: We had one right on the main road side, and didn't hear any street noise with the windows closed...

I stayed here whilst travelling with friends. We stayed in rooms 305 and 306 which formed a suite via a connecting door. The rooms were fantastic and really well appointed. The sauna on the 4th floor was brilliant and the food was superb - we ate both evening meal and breakfast there. The bar was lovely too - great cocktails! Service was always with a smile. The underground parking was handy too, particularly as it snowed all night. I can honestly say this is the best hotel I have stayed at for a long time and cannot recommend it highly enough. If you're planning to stay in Füssen and this hotel is within your budget then go for it, I promise you you won't regret it - I'm already planning my return visit!
