“Central location, Cosy place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2011

We arrived in Füssen after a prolonged train ride due to a collapse bridge enroute. It started snowing, and we had difficulties getting our bearings to find our way (on foot) from the train station to the hotel . However, Germans are such kind people - an elderly gentleman stopped to offer directions upon seeing us stare at the map helplessly. At the hotel, the guy at the reception helped carry our suitcases to our room on the top floor of the wing sans elevator. After washing up, we decided to go out for a walk and to get dinner. The snow had gotten considerably heavier, and the same friendly guy at the reception produced an umbrella upon inquiring whether we had brought any along for the walk (We did not and was not relishing the climb back to room to get one!)

The room was small, yet cozy, and sufficiently equipped. Bathroom had a roof window onto which snowflakes fell, and made for a lovely picture. Hotel is located right smack in the middle of Füssen town, surrounded by shops and restaurants. The train station is just short walk away (after we orientated ourselves) where you can catch the bus to the castles. There’s a basement supermarket along the way where we picked up our drinking water and supplies. Breakfast included was quite a hearty spread. Free wifi available even in rooms, could be a little patchy at time, but overall still good!

We stayed here for 1night. The hotel was clean, friendly staff, large rooms. Great breakfast - really lovely. This hotel is walking distance from the train station for most people, but if you are traveling with someone older or someone that may not be as mobile, I'd suggest taking a cab to the hotel, although I didn't see any taxi cabs near the train station (this is a very small town). The hotel is in a quaint, very nice shopping/historic area of Fussen - we loved it. Wish we would have been able to stay for one more night in Fussen. Please note - I don't think this hotel has an elevator/lift but I could be wrong (one wasn't pointed out to us anyway). It would have been nice for my dad to have an elevator to use since our hotel rooms were on the third floor and the breakfast area is on the second floor. Just be aware of the no elevator situation if you are traveling with older people or those that might have difficulty climbing stairs. It's a small town, but more time to explore would have been really nice. It's easy to catch a bus from the train station in Fussen to the Neuschwanstein castle area. I'd suggest taking time to do this. Once you catch the bus out to the area where the casltes are, you go to a building to purchase the tickets for the castle tours. There are two casltes to see in this area. There are lots of cute shops to check out too, either before or after you go see the castles. To save some energy or tired feet, you can take a horse carriage ride most of the way up the hill to the castle (about $12 USD roundtrip), but you will still have to walk the last quarter mile or so to the actual castle. Take time to walk around and see the town of Fussen. Some very nice shops and restaurants.

We stayed at Hotel Zum Hechten Sept 8th and 9th , 2010 on our first ever trip to Bavaria. We can’t say enough about the hotel and its location. If you want to be right in the middle of the Altstad at a very reasonable price, this is it. We stayed in the back portion of the hotel which was great and quite. The room was very clean, open and bright with a nice little balcony (even though it was overlooking the parking lot). The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly, which really helped a couple of Americans new to Bavaria. There was a restaurant/bar coupled with the hotel, we only ate there once but had a few beers there many times, which was very convenient. We loved the town of Fussen and our trip to Schloss Neushwanstein, but the highlight for us was sitting in the indoor market and having drinks and snacks with the locals. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel is centrally placed in town, easy walk to everything (we even walked back from the castle!) No lift is a bit difficult - thankfully we had men to do the heavy lifting as there was no offer of help from the hotel. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty with our host fussing around making sure we had everything we wanted. Our room was quite small but had all we needed - comfortable bed and pillows, heated coils to get our washing dry.

We stayed here two nights and had a good experience. Had to wait a bit to get checked in and finding the parking lot was a bit of an issue but once we had staff there to help all was good. Other reviews are correct that there is no elevator - beware if you have heavy luggage, but our room was large with a good sized bathroom and nice balcony. Wish we had tried the restaurant.

Good place to stay if you are in town to see the castles.

This hotel is a bang for your buck! Large room with nice-sized bathroom and professional and friendly staff at the reception desk. The breakfast included with the price was fine, very typical of German continental breakfasts in general. We liked the location, was fairly easy to find on foot from the train station! Lots of storage space for suitcases and all things travelers haul around. The beds were fairly comfortable. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would book here again if we are ever in the same area.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Hechten during our vacation to Germany this year. Bavaria was our favorite part of the trip and Fussen was wonderful! Our room at Hotel Hechten was clean, functional, roomy, and acceptably modern. The bathroom was great. The bed was fairly comfy. The location of the hotel is perfectly centered in Fussen. The service was excellent throughout our stay. The hotel restaurant has great food and was a perfect place for our first Bavarian meal. The pike was excellent. The breakfast was more than we expected and we were happily satisfied. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely stay here again! No complaints from us!
