“Little houses”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Located an easy walk from the rest of the tourist sites in Augsburg, this collection of buildings was a quick stop. Aside from one historic unit/museum and one more modern unit you can tour, the rest of the complex is private residences. There is also a chapel and a bomb shelter you can walk through without any additional fees.

“Unique and interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

A fascinating "living history" museum - the oldest "social settlement" in the world. It was established in 1521 by the wealthy Fugger family, to provide housing for needy citizens. Most of the cozy apartments are still occupied, but 2 are set up as "show flats", and there is also a bunker explaining the WWII history of the settlement. Informative English brochure available.

“The oldest social housing residence in the world”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Fuggerei is the oldest social housing residence in the world. It dates from 1521 and people pay only 0,88 euros a year. You can walk around in the neighbourhood and see how people used to live in these cosy houses in the beginning and nowadays. It's really worth a visit.

“Alms houses since the middle ages”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

A very interesting, and lovely residence. Where else can you live for a rental of 88 cents a year..?? Take the tour, (4 Euros) and all will be explained. Can be visited independantly, or as part of the Guided Tour from the Tourist Office, (8 Euros), given in German and English. An important aspect of local social history..!!
