“WILL DO -JUST”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We had used this hotel in the past as it is quite near the centre of town and easily to reach on a main road and as long as the windows are closed it is relatively quiet here. This time our room was to the yard and we were woken up several times by staff having loud arguments outside the kitchen door. Still, the hotel has everything yo can expect from IBIS, but it is now really in need of complete refurbishment. The staff is generally friendly but the ambience is not any more. As we have to come back to Augsburg next year we will consider the IBIS again, but only if it has refurbished.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear are quieter due to heavy traffic and trams from early in the morning to late night...

Typical Ibis. Decent value for a room but minimal amenities. Room was clean and bed was ok. Towels and liquid bath soap in the bathrooms, but no hand towels nor wash cloths. No Air Conditioning .TV ok. No FREE parking, cost us 8 Euro to park in the basement. BUT………. It was close to downtown Augsburg. Walking was no problem. Current road construction confused our GPS and had to find an indirect route to the hotel. Didn’t have the buffet breakfast as we thought the cost was a bit on the high side (believe it was 10-12 Euro p/p) so just went into town for a bun and coffee. If all you need is the basics and want to be near to downtown, this is a decent alternative. Hotel does have an elevator and the basement parking area is secure. As we were not leaving right after check out the staff allowed us to leave our car in the parking area giving us time to walk around Augsburg for a couple of hours prior to leaving.

Room Tip: Probably best to go for the back since it is on a busy street.

My second visit to this hotel, its fine for a short stay in Augsburg, but nothing special, and starting to show its age a bit now. I believe Ibis are globally rebradning and refurbing their hotels, and it would be good when they reach this one.

Location - Good, just 10 minutes walk from the Hauptbahnhof (dont confuse it with the other Augsburg Ibis, which is much closer to the Hauptbahnhof). You are 10 minutes walk to the main shopping area in the city, and perhaps 15 minutes max to Maximillianstrasse, which seems to be the best part of Augsburg for nightlife.

Room - It was ok, but very uninspiring and looking dated now. It was clean though, and the bed was big and comfortable. Television was an old portable, probably 20 years out of date now, not really acceptable for a hotel in the 21st century! Other little bits like the drab furniture, the scuff marks on the walls and one of the fittings on the toilet seat being missing all added to the uninspiring experience.

Reception - Staff were efficient and just about friendly enough, but not overly friendly. Addressing this would make a huge difference in my opinion.

Breakfast - Did not eat here, but its the usual ibis breakfast buffet on offer. One positive was that it never looked too busy in there, and this was at 08:30. We chose to eat breakfast at a cafe in Rathausplatz instead, very nice.

Conclusion - It serves its purpose just about, and for one or even two nights in Augsburg it would be all you need, but I will probably look elsewhere next time I visit Augsburg.

While a fan of Ibis going back over 20 years, stays like this would not that otherwise. Older look, badly in need for refurbishing and previous reviews are correct about one very less-than-friendly staff member. Main problem is that, like many hotels in Germany, even much more expensive ones, there is no air conditioning. Because the concept of window screens also doesn't exist in this high-tech country, leaving windows open at night means flying insects joining you in your room. Our room, in particular, facing the street had lots of noise, and light, all night long meaning it was a choice of noise, light and bugs but a cooler room or seal it up for quiet but then the unplanned for amenity of a dry sauna. Old mattress didn't help. Breakfast, despite arriving 2 hours before it ended, was a disappointment compared to other Ibis: no croissants (brand standard?), no breads, just a few older hard rolls. Surprisingly limited international TV channels (no BBC or other British for example) on a TV set circa 1980's. On a positive note, great location and good underground parking for a nominal fee of 8 Euros.

some of the reviews for this hotel were very cruel, but i found it very convenient for the station and the city,it was clean and the staff were very nice as well.
the only downside was outside ,the trams were not running past because of roadworks in the city

Room Tip: at the rear

Augsburg's Hotel Ibis (Königsplatz) was a good place for us to stay our first few days in Germany. The location was central enough to get everywhere we wanted to. The room was comfortable enough for us to rest in while battling jet lag. Breakfast was available if we were awake at the right time, and dinner when we were too tired to go anywhere else. And for short walks, the cemetery across the street is immaculately kept and gorgeous.

Plusses:
-centrally located so all interesting places can be visited on foot
-not to expensive
-private parking in an underground garage (not free), important since longtime parking on the street is almost impossible.
-one free internet computer in the lobby.
Minusses:
-typical Ibis hotel room: small, narrow shower.
-hotel and room very hot, airconditioning not working
-no free Wifi other than in a business package.
-the traffic situation around Koenigsplatz is terrible, and will last till 2015 since the Koenigsplatz is in a proces of total renovation, so you can't reach the hotel by typing it in your GPS since that will try to lead you to the Koeningsplatz which is totally closed to all traffic. Ask the hotel in advance how to reach the underground parking through a detour next to the Main Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof).
