“Home away from home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2012

Living in Regensburg, I visit the Spitalgarten in all seasons. Spring & Summer enjoy the Biergarten with very friendly service, satisfying food and perfect ambiance. For a change try the "Dunkelbier" a rich dark brew, try it in a liter Stone Mug "Stoahmass". For sun sit on the fence or around the corner from the grill. There is also a small, enclosed children's playground and a small terrace where you can book family get togethers.
Autumn and winter sit in the bar or the side room (you can book for small private parties) enjoy an extensive menu with classics and gourmet selection. I first came here in 1989 and discovered the "Grilteller" a mixed grill of steak, pork, veal, sausage, bacon, herb butter, horseradish, chips (fries) and salad and it is still going strong.
There is also a large dining room you can book for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or "Einfach So..."
There are two toilets for people with disabilities, one inside and one in the garden... Just ask your server for the key...
Lunchtime, afternoon, after work, dinner, night or special occasions like the jazz festival etc. the Spitalgarten is home to everyone who visits... Tell them Tim the Magician sent you and if I am there I will entertain you for free...

“Lovely spot on the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

We went here a couple of times after work in the springtime - good memories of sitting out until long after sunset! And for a novice in beer garden practice, the work rate and attentiveness of the waitresses was something to behold. I recommend a Spital Weizen, and a Radler to pace yourself...

“A good place for a beer and a meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2011

We visited gaststaette Spitalgarten in Regensburg in the beginning of September when the weather was fine. We enjoyed a mug of Spital beer in the spacious beer garden next to the Danube river. When we found ourselves in Regensburg in October again we decided to try the food at Spitalgarten, of course in the restaurant; it was just a bit too nippy outside to be comfortable. The restaurant has a typical German layout with settees round long tables and a bar. A German pub indeed. The service it a bit aloof but yet attentive. Spitalgarten serves local food made with quality ingredients. Remarkable is that the cook at Spitalgarten will ensure that you will not leave hungry. The amount of food on your dish is impressive. Complemented with a mug of Spital beer there is not much more to be desired in the area of food and drink. I would not hesitate to visit Spitalgarten again.

I was there in a May afternoon and evening, in the Danube banks, with very good weather and better beer and food.
