Located in the centre of Regensburg’s old town immediately adjacent to the cathedral and a short walk to everything of interest the Bischofshof am Dom is a perfect location.
Driving there is no problem and they a supply a secure pay car underground car park which is also available to non-guests so if you want to park then it is absolutely essential to reserve a parking place as they fill very quickly!
The courtyard which includes hotel entry is a joy and allows for al fresco dining- they offer a comprehensive traditional Bavarian kitchen and beers and the staff, dressing in traditional costume, are both friendly and efficient and the costs aren’t exorbitant.
The hotel is extremely old and the decor traditional and caters more for the older guest, the public rooms are large and have extremely comfortable furniture.
We were there on route and overnight only so the room we had was a standard one. It was of adequate size with high ceiling and the decor of fair standard.
TV with limited channels was adequate.
Comfy bed with OK linen- if you like stacked pillows be sure to order them on arrival, seems Germans like to sleep flat!
Bathroom adequate though towels bordering on tiny, freebie smellies OK but not special.
We like to sleep with the window and curtains open and this was possible as we were on the second floor but there are two problems with that – firstly the private apartments opposite are within touching distance and secondly the street noise is persistent, it’s a student town and the “revellers” whilst perfectly orderly, there was certainly no yob culture in this town, continue until after 3am.... and then the street workers/delivery vehicles begin...this is all out of the hotels control of course so no criticism there.
We only had a standard room and maybe the “better” rooms which face into the square are a better choice?
Good breakfast with possibility to sit outside as the inside breakfast room somewhat uncomfortable “chunky” traditional carved wood furniture and was quite dark.
The overall experience was good for a one night stop-over, the dominant memory being the dinner we had in the courtyard restaurant and if the weather had been anything but perfect it maybe wouldn’t have been such a great experience.
We made a good choice staying here and if we return for a longer stay we would certainly pay extra for a “better” room.
As usual the more you pay the better the room quality but standard room quality is certainly good.
