“Handy Station Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Perfect location opposite Passau Railway Station - less than 2 minutes away!

Hotel is acceptable if a little bland but I stayed for the location and that could not be faulted.

Air conditioning worked well.

Good breakfast.

A short walk to the older historic part of town with its bars and restaurants, but a very short walk to the bus terminus, train station and some major stores. Hotel itself rises from a somewhat abandoned mini-mall of relatively new shops - the economic downturn? However, the IBB is clean and comfortable, though typical of small hotels in this part of the world, the pillows were so fluffy they crush down to nothing under their own weight. In hindsight I should have stuffed a bath towel in the pillow slip! A large restaurant overlooking the Danube provided a satifying choice for breakfast. A lot of large unused conference rooms, patio areas and meandering hallways going nowhere suggest the economy has caught up with some once grander plan for the hotel and the immediate surroundings. Sort of a quiet little hotel slightly lost inside a large building.

Room Tip: Some rooms possibly overlook the Danube while others overlook a seemingly abandoned central courtyar...

We paid for 1 night € 190. For that price, we really expected more than what we got:
A worn-out room where I had to takke a shower behind a plastic curtain in a bath;
A hair dryer that only had two possibilities: almost nothing or burning your hair;
No flacons or whatso-ever for shampooing, shoebrush etc;
Expecting to pay foreverything, like wifi (shame on you!,,,), spa facilities (renting a bathrobe = € 4).
I must say, the room was quite large (2 large beds) and the breakfast was o.k.
But my concusions is that this hotel will only please older people with too much money.

The IBB hotel is very conveniently located directly opposite Passau train station and within walking distance of all of the sights of the town. Passau itself is a great destination; beautifully situated amongst picture postcard rivers and full of wonderful architecture including a must visit cathedral.

The hotel is well equipped with a swimming pool, sauna and steam room, and massages and other treatments can be booked too. The communal areas were clean if a little nondescript, and the rooms were comfortable and spacious, with extra pillows available from a cupboard on the landing. Our room had two full size double beds and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space although only a couple of hangers and not enough towels.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis; the breakfast was a buffet with lots of options ranging from hot food to muesli, cakes, cheeses, meats and fruit salad - surely something to suit every taste and just what we needed to set us up for the day ahead.

Overall this hotel perfectly suited our needs, and as we were arriving by train the location couldn't have been better.

I got a fairly cheap room in the off season (VERY off) and felt like I had the place to myself practically. The breakfast spread was always a pleasure in the morning with a rich assortment of bread, cold cuts, American-style bacon, croissants, prosciutto, melons & fruit etc. The hotel is immaculately clean, the staff are helpful, and the location is perfect after a long train ride (as in, right there). It loses a star for expensive wifi, but that is standard practice, unfortunately.

Room Tip: Off season bookings have decent upgrade potential here.

I spent one weekend with friends in this hotel in December 2011. We choose this hotel because of location and parking.

The hotel is located in front of the mail train station, to main square where was the Christmas market it was only about 10minuts by walk. Hotel is as a part of building with a supermarket and small shopping mall. They have private part of huge garage in the underground and it is easy to find it if you arrive by car. Parking is payable but not so expensive, for one day 4 Euros. There is a direct access from garage to the reception and rooms by a lift.
The hotel is situated in the street with a lot of shops and huge shopping mall is only about 200meters far.

Lady at a reception desk was very helpfull. We had one triple room, room was fine, not so huge for 3 person but for one night OK. Equipment and condition of the room was OK for 4star category.
The only disadvantage which I can write is that the mattress in beds were very soft and I´m not use to it, but it ´s just my opinion.

Breakfast was excellant with great selection and breafast room has a beautifull view on Danube.

I can recommend.

I read these reviews before booking the Ibb and figured for one night it would be ok. I was arriving by train and it is directly across from the train station-a one to two minute walk. Go out of the station and down the stairs to your right. The hotel will be on the left. It is an older hotel that could use some updating. I am in room 158 which is at the end of a very long hall from elevator. At first that bothered me until I walked the hall after dinner and smelled the smoke coming into the hall. At least I am a little bit removed from the stench. Very unpleasant. Being an American and accustomed to smoking rooms being allocated to one floor or non-smoking hotels, this makes the whole floor reak of smoke. The dinner buffet was good, lacking any cooked vegetables but perhaps that is the German style. Cost was €23 including water and coffee. I would recommend to the Ibb that they make one floor smoking to accommodate non-smokers. It doesn't help to have the smoking rooms interspersed among the non-smoking. My room has only one chair. There are two lamps so it appears there might have been two chairs at one time. The chair is very uncomfortable and the bed is sitting right on the floor-no frame, so it is really low.
