“Good value for money ratio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

As far as I understood the hotel has quite newly opened and the owners were very kind and we have been warmly welcomed.
We are a family (2 adults and 2 kids) and we did overnight in a sort of family suite.
The room was adequate in space even if a renovation would be apreciated for the bathroom.
Breakfast was nothing impressive in comparison to the german standards.
Free Wi-Fi and easy parking are a plus.
The hotel is located in the periphery of Nurnberg (no issue for safety: don't forget you are in Germany) and the city center can be reached with the U-bahn.

In july-august we went by car to visit Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and back again, by Austria and Germany, (2 adults and 2 teenagers) preparing everything at the last moment with Tripadvisor.

At this hotel we had a very pleasant stay driving back home. The subway is very close, as is the Trails Courthouse... I went visiting the excellent memorial there and the family went shopping downtown...very easy...Great breakfast! Nurnberg is beautiful!!!!

Unless you feel that you MUST stay in the center of old town (and most likely pay a higher price), this is a wonderful spot. It is very close to a subway station and walking distance to the Nuremberg trials building (which is a must for any WII buffs; it has a great museum). The staff (family) is very friendly and helpful and run the place when Snuffels, the cat, is not on duty. =) You have to see the tea mugs with a picture of Snuffels sleeping under a blanket with his toy. I appreciated the magnifying mirror on the bathroom mirror. Our bathroom was kind of small, but that is how they tend to be in Europe. We loved the breakfast. The hotel is clean and has a pleasant Danish flair to it. I sleep with earplugs and my husband has a hearing problem, so outside noise was not an issue. I would have liked a room fan since it was warm and humid. We live in a dry heat area and are not used to humidity and temperatures in the 80s. Perhaps they have a fan for check-out at the front desk; I didn't ask. We definitely recommend Hotel Hamburg.

I booked this hotel based on the trip advisor recommendations, but was a little disappointed.

Our room was pretty noisy as it was on the ground floor, next to reception. We had the road on the front, with people walking past, and a courtyard behind with people chatting. I would recommend asking for a room upstairs.

Another thing which was disappointing was the internet access, which worked, but only if we stood outside the front door of our room! Not ideal!

The location wasn't great, but we knew that when we booked. We had the car, so we were able to drive into and out of town. There was parking available outside the front of the hotel. It was always fairly busy, but we were always able to grab one of the last spaces.

Having said all that, it was comfortable and we were fine to stay there for a couple of nights. It just didn't live up to some of the other hotels we stayed in, and to the other reviews on this website.

Unfortunately we could only stay one night in this hotel. It is an excellent location to explore Nuremberg, since the nearby subway station Maximilianstraße is just a few minutes away by foot. The room was clean, decorated in warm colors and big enough for most people. The breakfast buffet was okay; maybe not so much choice as in some other 3 or 4 star accommodations, but more than enough to have a healthy and good start of the day. In general the hotel seemed very suitable for families.

We selected the Hotel Hamburg because we had planned a trip at short notice and it was listed as Tripadvisor's no. 1 economy hotel in Nuremberg.

Everything we experienced fully justified that status, from the welcome by the young man on the reception desk to the standard and cleanliness of the rooms.

The Hamburg is about 10-15 minutes walk from the nearest metro station, so access to the centre wasn't a problem, and the weekend night bus also stopped within easy walking distance. On the occasion we took a taxi from the centre (from the central train station), we were charged €10.10. The journey took about 15 minutes and the taxi driver seemed pleasant and honest - another bonus of visiting Nuremberg.

The condition of the room was first-class, consistent with all other areas of the hotel that we saw. Though there was some external noise, the windows offered excellent sound insulation and there was a proper, metal external sunscreen that could be lowered if needed.

The room and toilet facilities were also clean and well-equipped.

The only real "drawbacks" turned out not to be negatives. Having hoped for an iron in the room, we found one could be borrowed free-of-charge from reception or ironing done by the staff for a reasonable charge. Likewise, coming from the British Isles, I noted in the hotel questionnaire that a kettle would have been nice.

Just a few hours after checking out, I received an email noting that irons aren't provided as standard for safety reasons, that kettles are also available to borrow and that they had already updated their hotel information to include the latter fact.

One other bonus of the Hamburg is that it's located directly opposite a shopping centre so, if you want to save a few more Euros, you can have breakfast in one of the low-price caferias (I can recommend the Turkish one) or buy food to go from the Kaufland there.

Overall, it's hard to see what more any hotel could do for the price on offer and I wouldn't hesitate to go back there or recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Being at the end of the corridor, we had windows to the front and back, which was nice, though, such...

Amazing hotel, great atmosphere, pleasant and well-equipped rooms, very good and friendly service, very tasty food, good location and access to the trade fair - fensterbau/frontale in Nürnberg.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor for non smoking are the best.
