This has more to offer outside than in the museum. The museum is still well worth the small fee to tour.

“Free to walk around”

Not much to learn here unless combined with Documentation Cntr visit. Then you will understand why it's still here and why it is over grown with weeds, but still used locally.

“Low key”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

I was rather disappointed with my visit. It failed to capture the atmosphere of what led to the adoption of the city by the Nazis, what the city was like whilst they were there - or the aftermath. You were left with an impression this was a place the city had to support - and yet would prefer their name to not be associated with these events. The fact they were using the site as a lorry park and sport site was an indication, as was the fact that no shuttle was provided to reach the zeppelin field. The fact they warned people they could only enter at their own risk, and spent time explaining how difficult it is to maintain suggests similar.

“A place for sober reflection.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014

As my eyes swept over the Zeppelin Field and up to Hitler’s “pulpit” on the Grandstand, scenes from Leni Riefenstahl’s 1935 classic propaganda film “Triumph of the Will” played over and over in my head. This is where over a half-million of the party faithful attended the 1934 Nazi Party Congress and chorused Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil! while they remained blissfully unaware that the Third Reich, the Führer -- and many of them -- were doomed.

The partially demolished Zeppelin Field Grandstand is bedraggled-looking, and although I am generally in favor of historic preservation I must admit that it somehow seems fitting that this infamous structure should be left to rot. The Congress Hall is an entirely different matter because it provides a wonderfully apt setting for the Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelaende, a museum that explains the Nazi Party’s rise and fall and documents the human carnage this evil organization left in its wake. Highly recommended.

The review of LivandZac87 from Australia is exactly what it is. One thing..., the more you know the less you understand.
