“A definite must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

This is a really magnificent museum where the exhibits are beautifully displayed. We plan to revisit Nuremberg early next year just to do the museum justice. I could spend days in it!

“So much to see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

We arrived 1 hour 10 minutes before closing and were informed by the most helpful lady to take out time putting our bags and coats in the lockers available and then entry would be free of charge! She was so helpful and super friendly advising the best way to get the most from such a short visit.
Most signs are in English too and greatly laid out. Very interesting and I highly recommend a visit but do allow plenty of time for your visit.
We will definitely return and spend a full day! If not more.

“All of the Smithsonians under one roof!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

There is so much wonderful history in this museum. We allowed ourselves only five hours and could have spent two days. Lots of fascinating treasures, very well presented.

“Strikingly daring Museum: "Aufbruch der Jugend" 26.09 - 19.01.2014”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

This outstanding Museum stands at Kornmarkt, near Lorenzkirche. Structurally, it is a masterpiece of architectural design with sunlight (when available) penetrating gracefully its well insulated external "skin". There are 2 long huge buildings in parallel, thus you need more than a day to explore in detail. As we had limited time availability we visited only a temporary exhibition about "Aufbruch der Jugend" that is "Young people exploding uprise". Actually, it is a historical explanation of how nearly100 years after Napoleon's last battle at Waterloo the German state of the time decided to assemble and "organize" young generations in unions (leagues) targeting towards the absolute control of youth's explosive power. Nationalist ideas and emblems followed next. Exploitation and manipulation of masses followed the huge global crisis of 1928. This exhibition, rich in objects, books, flags and videos even since 1913 explain how this manipulated wave of young people blindfold with Nationalist ideals paved the way to World War 2.
It took us more than 2 hours to absorb this shocking temporary exhibition! Next time we need one day to see the rest.

“Epic collections, decent experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

First thing - this museum is massive, you would need a full day to really see everything and even then it might be at a rush. Collection range from medieval sculpture to paintings, musical instruments and prehistoric flint tools. Although the collection is very traditional in themes, the layout is modern in large, well lit rooms and with plenty of information provided.

English language signage varies depending on the section of the museum. The pre-historic sections we focused on were all labelled in English, but the section on musical instruments was not, although the signage was not overly complex for anyone with a basic knowledge of German. There is certainly enough in English to keep you busy for several hours.

The only real disappointment was that we arrived on a day when there was late opening and later discovered that if we had shown up 15 minutes later, the museum would have had free admission, thought the staff at the desk might have advised on this (as others have at other museums with similar free times).
