“Our best October vacation in a European city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Given the opportunity of a business meeting demanding 2 days full in magic Nuernberg, we stayed 3 nights in Duerer hotel. I chose this hotel on purpose as it is situated inside the walls of the old "magic" city of Nurnberg just aside the Kaiserburg castle and 50 meters away from Albrecht Duerer's house, city's honored great German painter. As the airport is very near the city, the access to hotel by taxi is quick and cheap. My wife and I, arrived rather early in the morning and our room was not yet free for us. Hotel's 2 concierge ladies-dressed in traditional Bayerisch way- in a swift and very polite way received our luggage, helped us to freshen up and helped us out with all important information regarding the old city center. All important places to see and visit are in a walking distance of maximum 20 minutes from Duerer hotel. In 10 minutes we were inside the fantastic toy museum, then meters away the Hauptmarkt with an unforgetable event just happening there, with a visit to the unbelieveable Germanisches National Museum to finish our walking exploration of the first day! When we returned to our "home-hotel" we found our luggage already in our room at the exact floor we asked for! For our dinner, we immediately found Hutt'n Wirtshaus in a distance of 100 meters from hotel where we had the best Frankonia (northern Bavaria) German food (pork of course). The breakfast in this hotel is absolutely fantastic with lots of choices. The highest points for this hotel are its great personnel and its strategic position in Nuernberg. My only suggestion is to add one "harder" pillow at least in the room, as I had to put my bag below my pillow...

Room Tip: Ask for a harder pillow, if available and a lighter (and less warm) bed cover. The computer terminal...

Well situated for all the classic sights of Nuernberg within the atmospheric old city walls, although if you are arriving by car be aware that on-street parking is very restricted here and you will have to pay to use the hotel's car park.

Friendly and helpful staff, decent breakfast with diverse options, pleasant and spotless bedroom, comfortable lounge and small courtyard garden for our three night stay. The price was good value considering the prime location.

The only downer was the absence of air conditioning in temperatures that ranged around 35 C - the fan provided was not equal to the task. The receptionist explained that the hotel's location in a sensitive conservation area meant planning permission could not be obtained to install air con units. That is something to bear in mind if visiting in July or August, when it can get pretty hot in south Germany.

Room Tip: For a quiet room, ask for one facing the courtyard - there can be some street noise late at night fr...

This hotel is just behind Albrecht Durer's house and next to the old city wall. The castle is 5 minutes walk away, and the sights of Nuremberg are all within walking distance. The hotel has parking underneath, good wi fi throughout, and the breakfasts were fantastic. Only small complaint was that, as with a lot of European hotels, there was no air conditioning, so at times it was rather warm at night.

Nice staff was helpful when we needed some photocopies. The room was large, and I asked for a room overlooking the old city wall, which was very nice compared to the rooms towards the other direction. Those had large windows on the other hand if you prefer that. Breakfast was very good, especially the pastries. I do recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again. Access from the airport was very easy if you don't mind a 15 min walk from the subway.

The hotel is located just behind the Albrecht Duerer House, just a stone's throw from the Castle and next to the old city wall in the center of Nuremberg. It is around the corner from some very good traditional restaurants and a short walk to shopping and sightseeing across the river in a pedestrian-only area. We arrived with two carry-ons and three suitcases and as soon as the front desk saw this they gave us an upgrade to a suite at no charge without our asking. The staff speaks English well and is very helpful with tourist questions. The breakfast buffet is included in the room price and is quite complete by any European standard. The room also included internet and TV, was very clean and lovely. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The suite above the front desk and reception area is excellent!

I stayed at the Hotel Duerer just before Christmas in 2012. I found the hotel to be very clean, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff helpful and kind. The location is great - right beneath the Kaiser's castle. You have easy access to the best parts of Nuremberg (a very walkable city with beautiful bridges) and there is a dry moat around the old city with an entrance by the hotel. Cobblestones, lights, restaurants, cathedrals - all right there or very close. I enjoyed it so much that I returned to it again after I had a room at a hotel that was not as clean nor friendly. One hint about traveling in Europe - bring an alarm clock - nobody seems to own one and I never knew what time it was in the room. :-) When I go back to Nuremberg (I go for business) I will stay at this hotel.

We wanted a hotel close to the famous Christmas market and the Hotel Duerer is about 5 minutes' walk away. The hotel is a typical European average hotel with rather small rooms and equally small bathrooms. However they do offer free internet and breakfast was included - an extensive buffet breakfast. There is no restaurant but the hotel was able to make recommendations nearby.
