“Good all round experience, but beware summer heat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Well situated for all the classic sights of Nuernberg within the atmospheric old city walls, although if you are arriving by car be aware that on-street parking is very restricted here and you will have to pay to use the hotel's car park.

Friendly and helpful staff, decent breakfast with diverse options, pleasant and spotless bedroom, comfortable lounge and small courtyard garden for our three night stay. The price was good value considering the prime location.

The only downer was the absence of air conditioning in temperatures that ranged around 35 C - the fan provided was not equal to the task. The receptionist explained that the hotel's location in a sensitive conservation area meant planning permission could not be obtained to install air con units. That is something to bear in mind if visiting in July or August, when it can get pretty hot in south Germany.

Room Tip: For a quiet room, ask for one facing the courtyard - there can be some street noise late at night fr...

This hotel is just behind Albrecht Durer's house and next to the old city wall. The castle is 5 minutes walk away, and the sights of Nuremberg are all within walking distance. The hotel has parking underneath, good wi fi throughout, and the breakfasts were fantastic. Only small complaint was that, as with a lot of European hotels, there was no air conditioning, so at times it was rather warm at night.

Nice staff was helpful when we needed some photocopies. The room was large, and I asked for a room overlooking the old city wall, which was very nice compared to the rooms towards the other direction. Those had large windows on the other hand if you prefer that. Breakfast was very good, especially the pastries. I do recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again. Access from the airport was very easy if you don't mind a 15 min walk from the subway.

The hotel is located just behind the Albrecht Duerer House, just a stone's throw from the Castle and next to the old city wall in the center of Nuremberg. It is around the corner from some very good traditional restaurants and a short walk to shopping and sightseeing across the river in a pedestrian-only area. We arrived with two carry-ons and three suitcases and as soon as the front desk saw this they gave us an upgrade to a suite at no charge without our asking. The staff speaks English well and is very helpful with tourist questions. The breakfast buffet is included in the room price and is quite complete by any European standard. The room also included internet and TV, was very clean and lovely. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The suite above the front desk and reception area is excellent!

I stayed at the Hotel Duerer just before Christmas in 2012. I found the hotel to be very clean, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff helpful and kind. The location is great - right beneath the Kaiser's castle. You have easy access to the best parts of Nuremberg (a very walkable city with beautiful bridges) and there is a dry moat around the old city with an entrance by the hotel. Cobblestones, lights, restaurants, cathedrals - all right there or very close. I enjoyed it so much that I returned to it again after I had a room at a hotel that was not as clean nor friendly. One hint about traveling in Europe - bring an alarm clock - nobody seems to own one and I never knew what time it was in the room. :-) When I go back to Nuremberg (I go for business) I will stay at this hotel.

We wanted a hotel close to the famous Christmas market and the Hotel Duerer is about 5 minutes' walk away. The hotel is a typical European average hotel with rather small rooms and equally small bathrooms. However they do offer free internet and breakfast was included - an extensive buffet breakfast. There is no restaurant but the hotel was able to make recommendations nearby.

We arrived in Nurnberg without hotel reservations. After arriving in old town, we found a parking spot near market square. From there, we tried to get rooms at a number of hotels with no luck. Hotel Durer was recommended by another hotel and there were a couple rooms vacant, so we took them. The rooms were very simple and they were in the lower level of the hotel, which was actually nice, since the hotel's parking garage was on the same level. That made it easy for loading the car when leaving in the morning. Because of all the pedestrian walkways in old town, getting the car to the hotel proved almost as difficult as finding a room. Parking in the hotel garage was 14 Euros. The hotel had a great European style breakfast and free WiFi. When we arrived at the hotel the location didn't seem to be that great, but in reality, it is located five minutes from the fortress and about seven minutes to market square; a great location because you are close to everything but without the noise. The staff was cordial, polite, and very helpful.
