“Good location, standard rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

This hotel has a very easy location in the old part of Nuremberg. Very clean, safe, and with a friendly staff. Some might find the rooms a bit outdated, but I found the hotel on the charming side. It's also very close--two doors down--from a very delicious bratwurst restaurant. It's also a 5-10 minute walk from the Hauptmarkt, Nuremberg's central square. A bit below it is the red light district, but in general this just isn't an issue at all. While I was staying, the wi-fi was nonfunctional or extremely spotty at best, but the staff let me sit in the breakfast room to use email and skype.

We booked the hotel for one night on trip through germany to Italy.

The triple room we booked was really a two story apartment with kitchen. We didn't mind the size, but beyond that the room wasn't really that great. The furnishing and the wallpaper was out of date. The carpets were old and the room and the hallways smelled strange. We got a smoking room, which was a disappointment since we had ordered non-smoking. Also, the room didn't have air conditioning, which made it pretty hot during the night.

The hotel is located just inside the altstadt-walls, within walking distance from most attractions in the old town. As other people have complained, it is quite close to the red light district. We weren't really bothered by that though. Nobody behaved in a threatening way, and you walk past the "red" street pretty quickly.

The hotel advertise that they have free wifi access in the rooms. We had terrible reception in our room, so that was pretty much a useless feature.

Breakfast was not included. We walked to a starbucks nearby and ate there, which worked out well.

Am Jakobsmarkt was a disappointment and not a hotel I would recommend. The best feature of the hotel is without doubt it's location.

We stayed for two nights, the hotel is very central.
Staff at reception was friendly & helpful.
Our room was in the back of the hotel, room was functional, lots of noise from the street during the night.
Free Internet, but no recption in the room, only in the main building.
Parking is free on a first came - first serve basis.

We only stayed in Nuremburg for one night, but it was nice to stay in the city center at this hotel. It is right along the wall around the city, but it wasn't difficult to get anywhere. If you walk at night you will realize it is close to the red light district, but during the day when we walked in you definitely couldn't tell. The room looked incredibly modern and our view was excellent, it looked very Bavarian. The only bad thing was there was no ventilation, I had a hard time sleeping but I may have been able to get a fan from the front desk. We didn't ask as we were so tired when we arrived.

The staff here is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great. Everything else from location, accommodations, etc is just average. Parking in the tiny underground garage with the full sized rental car was pretty challenging.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

Only stayed here for one night. Did not realise it was close to the redlight district, and did not see any evidence of this on my stay. The lobby is quite dated, as are the 'traditional' rooms (by traditional they mean worn). Checkin was ok, if not the friendliest. One of our party had a traditional room, which he said was ok, but would not choose again. I stayed in a double modern room; yes, it is renovated, but I found the bathroom with the glass wall a bit strange. My mattress was hard. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. WiFi only in lobby. Did not have breakfast there. Very strong smell of garlic in the hallway of the first floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a modern room!

I had booked this hotel primarily for its central location in the old town, close to the shopping areas and the major sights. I was very happy with my choice. The room I got was facing the court, and I slept very well in a comfortable bed. The rooms have been renovated, with hazelnut brown coloring, very nice to the eye, and modern bathroom facilities. You can easily hear your neighbors though, the walls must be rather thin. But I never had an issue with noise the three nights I stayed.
Staff were friendly, helpful and forthcoming.
I did not try the restaurant / breakfast, so cannot comment on that. There are enough coffee shops and restaurants in the area to quench one's hunger or thirst, so I tended to go to the cafe Lucas, the "Beck", or the Casa Pane.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the court, not the street
