The previous reviewers say it all -- the location is fabulous, just inside the Altstadt on the main shopping drag, within a few hundred yards of the train station.

Unfortunately, we encountered the same grumpy staff others have mentioned, but they won't deter me from staying there again. The price sure was right.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the first of our non-smiling front desk gals, who went through the motions to check us in. She gave us a non-smoking room, overlooking a back courtyard/fire-escape. We were glad for the quiet.

The room was a typical Ibis room -- spacious enough, spotlessly clean and a decent bed with fluffy duvets. However, the pillows were pathetic -- itsy bitsy ones, the tiniest we've ever encountered. Almost like they were for toddlers! But, they supported our head and we made do.

We spent 2 nights there, over a weekend. Nuremberg seems to really hop on the weekends, with lots of folks in the bars and on the street. We did hear some noisy/drunk guests in the stairwell/hallways late on Saturday night, but other than that, it was pretty quiet.

During our comings and goings, none of the front desk staff ever said good morning or hello to us or smiled. Very strange. I spoke to them in German, too, same reaction. We've stayed in a few Ibis hotels before, and the employees are usually very friendly. Maybe they banish the grumps to this place in Nuremberg? Who knows.

But, if you don't need friendly service and are just looking for a cheap place to stay in a neat town, this will do.

This hotel has a fantastic location in the Aldstadt, very handy for sightseeing. It is right next door to a great brauhaus, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Our room was bigger than we anticipated, with a much bigger bathroom than previous Ibis hotels. It was very clean and the staff were fine. The bar isn't really a bar though, just a few bottles of booze near reception and nowhere to sit! The Internet corner was also located here (1 PC) and you would feel in the way if you tried to use it. Great base for exploring the city though, which is incredible.

One downside, we did find our room baking hot with no apparent way to turn down the heating, which meant we struggled to get a good night's sleep.
