“Basic but fine - once we'd moved rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

Paid 147 pounds for 3 nights over New Year 2011/2, which I think was fair for the second room we had, on the second and third nights. That was quiet, well furnished and perfectly acceptable.

But the first room we had was dowdy and very noisy, being the only one perched next to the lift and above the hall. That was noisy at the best of times, but as it was New Year's Eve we had to suffer the live singer directly below until 1.45am (yes, we had gone out onto the streets to party but had hoped to get to sleep before then after 3 cities in 24h).

They should never have let a room in that position for that night.

Location's OK - 1 min walk to number 4 tram or 5 min walk to newly extended U3 U-Bahn line.

Staff otherwise helpful.

My husband and I ended up at Hotel Nestor after Hotel Acom moved us because they double booked the room that we had pre-paid. They told us it was better, it was nicer, it was 4 stars. The experience was awful.

Rooms: The lock didn't work on the door so it always took 3 or 4 times to get it open. Once open, we had to slam the door in order to get it to close. Inside it was freezing. We turned the heat on and it eventually warmed up but not before we went to bed.The bathroom was really small. Every time I turned in the shower I hit the walls or turned the water up or down. The room was a loft setup with the bed upstairs. It was a little weird but it was fine. We had 2 balconies but there was no furniture (might have been because it was December, or they might not put any out).

Location: Seemed ok. 2 tram stops to old town. It is on a busy street and near the hospital though. We slept through it but if you are a light sleeper then you might not.

Service: Non-existent. We went down for breakfast at 9am and the food was mostly gone and they were not refilling anything, tables were not cleared or set, staff seemed overwhelmed and didn't know what was going on. The staff speaks English which is usually helpful, except they are not knowledgeable. If you need directions, dinner reservations don't expect them to be much help. They all seemed clueless whenever we needed anything. We do OK on our own but we wanted them to make a dinner reservation and they couldn't figure it out. Housekeeping also left us with 2 mostly clean cups (there was still coffee/tea drips down the outside).

Parking: Tight and easy to damage your car. Problem is that the parking is small and uses "car elevators" so 2 cars on top, 2 cars on the bottom for each spot. Cars can only be a certain size and have to be parked properly in order for the elevator system to work.

Pros: Pet friendly.

Overall, the experience with this hotel and Hotel Acom made this part of our trip awful. Couldn't wait to leave.

What had to be a stay in a renovated suite for a week, ended in me checking out after one day. Nothing worked: impossible to get in or out of the garage as it is also their loading area, lamps in room did not all work, snow on each tv channel, shower pointing to the wall so i had to hold the shower head in my hand, the suite was only a large room with a sofa, plastic curtains that were too small and did not close and the best of all.. it was decided to close the restaurant for an unforseen time (weeks they told me) but "our guest are very happy to walk 200m to the right where there is a greek restaurant".
The wifi connection worked well though.
Never again.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

Me and my husband have slept at Nestor Hotel for one night. We have booked our room, and payed it when we got there. The package we have booked was 1 night accommodation, breakfast, 15 days parking and transfer to the airport and back to the hotel. We got all the things they had promised. We got a rooms with two floors: on the first floor, the living room, with TV, a desk, an armchair and a bathroom, and up the stairs was the bedroom with another TV, and a door that leaded out the balcony. In the morning, the traditional German breakfast: cheese, salami, butter, bread, gem, cereals, milk, coffee, orange juice, eggs, and further more.
We left our car there, in their parking, under the hotel, parking covered and locked. We also left there our car keys, just in case. They told us that they are putting them in the hotel safe. They payed our cab to the airport.
On return, we took the cab from the airport to the hotel, got the receipt and they gave us the money back on the spot.
The girls from the reception are very nice, they speak English perfectly, so even if you don't know German, you'll be OK.
Bye bye now!

PLUS - It's pretty close to downtown and the rooms are nice and clean.
MINUS - It's close to a hospital and you have sirens up and down the street on a regular basis. :-( Furthermore 2 tramtracks are located directly in front of the hotel, also very LOUD. I was in room 325 (located toward the front/street) and it was way to loud to get a good nights sleep. I will not book this hotel again.

We stayed in this hotel in order to enjoy more time in Nuremberg and the Christmas market after a Viking River cruise. I selected the hotel as it said it said it was walking distance to the market, etc., and was ranked 4 stars. This is not a 4-star hotel. There is no help with heavy luggage which should not be an issue except to reach a room on an upper floor (even if you take an elevator) you will have to go up and down stairs. The Christmas market is a 9 euro taxi ride from the hotel. The location is very isolated and far from everything, including other restaurants. The food in the hotel is very good but expensive. We paid 55 euro for a nice dinner - no wine, just hot tea and water. Service in the restaurant was good - a little slow but that is to be expected in Europe. There was no washcloth in the bathroom - silly little detail but important to some. Instead of replacing the glasses in the room we found the maid rinsing them with hot water in the sink. There are so many nice hotels in Nuremberg to choose from at decent prices, it is not necessary to stay somewhere like this. We definitely would not have stayed a second night except the hotel was paid for in advance through hotels.com. Lesson learned! The internet is 12,50 euro for each 24 hours. Ridiculous..

The hotel's location is not so central but very convenient for the direction towards the airport. The hotel's building is along the road, so vast parking possibilities - and it is not noisy in the rooms, so a good combination!

The rooms are not exactly like in very modern hotels - they give an impression of being a bit old-fashioned. But generally, very very neat and well maintained, with lots of space (sometimes on two floors).

The receptionists are friendly, and there are no queues.

It is also typically inexpensive w.r.t. the service and quality you get.
