“Good for Children”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014 via mobile

Having been to a number of railway museums in Northern Europe I have to be honest and say that this is not the best for looking at actual trains. There is only a few (well maintained) trains on the ground floor (for obvious reasons). The other floors focus on the history of DB and the DDR equivalent. Hats off to the museum for including the DDR aspect. On the top floor you will find the children's play area and this place is great. There is a small train you can sit astride and lots of other great activities. The model railway is certainly also worth a look - very impressive in a German sort of way. The restaurant is also good. So, the museum is definitely worth a look, but you will not be able to spend a whole day there.

“Taken a back with how much is on offer.”

Great museum more then just trains. German history of communication too. Lots to see, doesn't take long to get through but for 5 Euro great value.

“Excellent museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

This is one of three sites for the DB museum, the others are at Koblenz and Halle where most of the large exhibits are. This site has a few locomotives and coaches but concentrates more on the social history side of railways. I am the rail enthusiast but my wife (with little German) found it fascinating too. There are many film clips and there is no hiding from what happened in 1933-45. There is even a film clip of Mussolini arriving by train to meet Hitler, and then Charlie Chaplin's take on the same thing in The Great Dictator. It was pleasing to see that full credit is given to Trevithick and George and Robert Stephenson as pioneers. The exhibits also cover station architecture and the building of bridges and cuttings, and the splendid station masters' uniforms, more than is done at the British Rail Museum at York.

“Worth a Visit”

Excellent layout with lots of information and displays. My husband is the real enthusiast but I have to say that it captured my interest too - fantastic model railway layout and amazing technology in the function of it.

“Some good stuff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

A minor collection with a very good interpretive display. In German. The Bayern royal carriages and the replica Adler are worth seeing.
