“Nice late-night stop-off”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

We visited the bar late at night and were pleased to find a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. We mainly went for drinks, though we had a snack of what is known in the British Isles as chips and enjoyed them fine!

We sat at the bar so couldn't comment on the table service others have complained about but it seemed there were plenty of waiting staff who appeared to be attentive. Service at the bar was frantic but pleasant, even if the bar staff were so busy they had little time to spend with customers.

However, we had no major problems gaining their attention or with their attitude. They seem to have a system whereby one barman prepares the cocktails and while we were there he was under constant pressure but clearly taking care to do his job properly, rather than flashily shaking poorly-mixed drinks as you might find elsewhere in Nuremberg bars.

That said, even under extreme pressure, being constantly on the go, he and his colleagues were admirably attentive.

A nice touch was their cocktails-to-go option. The range of cocktails was relatively small but, personally, I think it's better to have a limited range done well than an extensive menu splashed together for show at the expense of quality.

One note of caution - we spotted some people who seemed to be operating some kind of hustle (they clearly knew each other as they made unsubtle signals but didn't sit together). It appeared that some of these at least knew some of the bar staff, given the familiarity of their interactions.

So a word of caution - especially to young men visiting this bar - should you spot a pretty young girl sitting alone and she seems to welcome your advances, all may not be as you would wish.

“Nicely situated, pleasant terrace, OK cocktails, OK kitchen, firendly but confused personnel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Bar Celona Finca is one of the most popular restaurants in Nuremberg, nicely situated on the Insel Schütt, near the largest Cinema in town and overlooking the river Pegnitz. It has a nice terrace which is a pleasant place to be in summer.

The style of the restaurant can be described as a mixture of a rustic cafe and a bar. The menu has international influences, although the motto is tapas. It is by no means a tapas bar, though. The dishes have european, latin american and asian influences. The menu list is short and the dishes tend to be quite small. I've tried almost all of them. Each of them is OK, but none is really good.

The cocktails are OK, not too good and not bad either. Cocktail prices are the same as elsewhere in the center of Nurembeg. There is a happy hour as well.

They also offer a brunch on Sundays, but compared to other brunch offers in Nuremberg I find it a bit boring. It's a bit like the average breakfast offer in 3-star hotels - nothing self-made, no fresh breadies, but warmed up packaged ones. The orange juice which is included in the price has max 30% fruit content. The brunch is good value for price, nonetheless. You need a eservation if you wish to make use of it, because it is quite popular.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. However, Bar Celona Finca has a persisting organizational problem when it comes up to orders and their allocation to tables. EVERY time I was there (and I was there about 20 times already) either they had booked something double, or had not booked it at all, or something came much later than the rest of the orders. It is also not unusual that multiple staff are responsible for one table, especially on the terrace and this brings in additional confusion among the staff. It's really not their fault, it has something to do with the management, I think.

“Truly awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

I went here one evening in June having eaten in its sister cafe-bar which was really nice - good service, nice and inexpensive food... this place was almost the polar opposite.

Nobody seated us so we just took a decent-looking table with a view. A waitress took our drinks order - then 5 minutes later someone else tried to take it. And wouldn't go away when told we'd already ordered. Then they forgot the drinks order. Then the second waiter showed up again and refused to go when we said we already had a waiter. The drinks never arrived;' whole place was in absolute chaos and after 20 minutes we just got up and left.

Seriously, don't bother with this place. The service at the other branch across from Starbucks in the old town is much better, in terms of atmosphere and service.

“good spanish food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2012

Went there to have a very late (=10PM) dinner. There seem to bee two Bar celonas in Nuremberg, the other was just a bar, and three blocks from the bar across the river another with the same name, but with spanish menu. Just a little annoying, because we were hungry, and looking for food.
The spanish restaurant was a little noisy, the atmosphere was done with dim lights and candles, to read the menus was laborious. Once the waitress (very friendly, but not very good in english) understood our order of having a plate of tapas to share, everything went well. The food was good with good value for money.

“more German than Spanish atmosphere and food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2011

The name hints at a Spanish tapas style bar/restaurant.
Well, the tapas on the menu mostly come from the deed fryer and has nothing to do with tapas at all. Atosmphere and interior is young and trendy as are most peers. I would classify the price/quality of the food as 6/10. In my opinion too expensive for the deep fried stuff out of the freezer. Battered veggies don't count as tapas either IMHO (other restaurant would call it veg tempura)
