“Fabulous authentic Thai food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Well the location is unusual, its a converted water mill right on the river Pegnitz and is spread over three floors. Its really atmospheric as quite a lot of the original machinery is still in there and the tables are positioned on a variety of platforms and decks built around the original mill workings. The menu is a relatively small one with half a dozen or so starters and a similar number of mains but all the favourites are there and the quality of the food is really outstanding. Its always busy and you have to book if you want to guarantee a table. The owner is fun and clearly passionate as well as knowledgeable about what he does but the service can be a little slow when its busy. If you want an authentic thai meal in a lovely setting then this is the no-brainer, go to choice in Nuremberg!

“Thai delicious.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

Built into the lower floors of an ok'd grain silo, the interior of Etage is rustique and very cosy.
From some of the tables you have some view over the Pegnitz river that floats right by the restaurant.
A rather limited menu with 5-7 starters (7-10€) and 5-7 mains (14-20€).
From my perspective that is a sign of quality. Although I must admit that it does not leave much for the vegetarians.
But i would rather they do a few things well, than having 100+ variations on the menu.
My starter proved me right -"Samosa" with shrimp-filling as starter with a sweet-sour chili dip. Delicious!
Had a glass of house-wine (a local Silvaner) to it. Very good for a housewine.
Perlputenbrust as main course. If i should be critical and pur afinger on it, it would be that the carrots were not fresh (or if they were, they were overcooked) but otherwise it was really great. The Perlhuhnbrust was perfectly tender and juicy.  Housewine Grauburgunder next to it. Again a very good choise as a house-wine from the restaurant.
Very friendly eye-to-eye service. Nothing snobbish about it. Just sit back and enjoy.
And there is a lot to enjoy.
It's not a large restaurant, so you should consider making reservations. Particularly if you're more than 4 or plan to eat out on ex. A Friday.
I would absolutely come back here.

“A pleasure on all counts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2009

Very balanced in terms of what Etage can offer the diner when it comes to food, service, ambience and value. The restaurant occupies the first floor of a former mill right on the Pegnitz. The style is typical German, but the food is all Thai - and some of the best I've had in Germany. The menu has a couple unique dishes, but still has staples like tom yum soup and an array of curries. The portions are a bit small, so ordering a couple appetizers with your main dish is recommended. I was with a large group of people and we actually ordered everything on the menu - there was nothing I didn't like. A solid choice for dining out and I would recommend this place for anyone for all occassions.
