“Great Israeli style restaurant experience in Munich”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We arrived fairly early and were seated at the back of the restaurant. The tables are very nicely set, the service is excellent. I really liked the wailing wall decoration, and the overall decor gives a lot of Jewish inspiration. Overall, the feel in the restaurant is of experiencing isreali style food without the limitations of a true kosher house. As is typical in German restaurants - there were no English menus, which made it hard to translate some of the meals, however the selection is good. The Service was very friendly and seemed to be truly interested in providing a good service

“Tasty food in a very quite location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

Schmock offers every day very tasty food with a very good selection of wines. The restaurant is also a well known bar with few tables outside for delicious breakfast or for a drink afterwork. Service is very good. It is located probably in the most lively area of Munich ( Schwabing) and for that reason it is a bit pricy....but it is definetly worth to pay a bit more for a fantastic dinner with unique dishes!

“Over priced Israeli style restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

Other than the hummus dish, there is nothing Israeli style about this place. And, there is no kosher food here. The fish dish we had was good, but very expensive. The service was OK. We had some difficulty with English interpretation of the menus & perhaps that was the problem.

“jewish cuisine in a loud place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2010

The place is very nice inside. Although very loud. Since it is not allowed to smoke, it got better, otherwise it was impossible to breathe.
I personally liked the food a lot, although most of my friends (Spain, Italy, Ukraine and Russia) were not very amazed.

You can also watch football - as already said, architecturally the palce is very nice. The service was rather not very consistent.

“Don't bother with this”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2010

Well, unless perhaps you're a regular. Or unless you're quite sure of being terminally hip. Or unless perhaps you're pefectly happy with the idea of being largely ignored. . .

But here's the point: Even if you stick with it through to the bitter end, you'll wonder why on earth you bothered to do so. The highly limited menu is some totally uninspired combination of "Israeli" and Middle Eastern cooking---which tends in practice to mean things like meatballs, and fish soup, and so forth; you've seen it before, and it's not nearly as exotic as it sounds. It's bland and banal.

It's a mystery why any German would go there ("guilt"?). Why anyone else who has spent any time in New York---or London, or Toronto, or Vienna, or Berlin--- would go there is a bigger mystery still.

They're basically just selling attitude (Their poster of a dog with a Nazi-inspired yellow star around his neck is a dead giveaway)---If you've bought it, you'kll leave feeling that you've been conned.
