We followed the directions on the hotel website and got there by public transport with the minimum of fuss in about 20 minutes. If you're by public transport and coming home late, the late-night bus service from Allach station to the bus stop at Keselstrasse, where you get off for the hotel, looks like a private coach and is unmarked. Just tell the driver where you want to go. We found the general public ultra-helpful with seemingly no grudge about losing the war.
We were welcomed at reception by a short, happy-looking man wearing glasses. He quickly checked us in and eagerly offered us information on how to get to the city-centre. Very helpful.
We had room 103, which was spacious and cleaned to perfection. A single, coconut-covered Ferrero Rochet styled chocolate was on each pillow of a comfy double bed, the valence of which was the ideal material and colour for an astro-turf Subbuteo pitch. The room itself was tastefully and functionally decorated, but I must state that the attention to cleanliness and a desire to perfect gave an overall feel of not wanting to touch anything for fear of breaking it. In a sense, character was difficult to define – definitely not romantic, though the essence for inter-relations was there in a suspect way.
The bathroom had a white-tiled floor and was fitted with a shower unit – tops! There was plenty of heat in the water and dual-controls for the power. All the chrome fittings were 5-star polished and actually doubled as mirrors for your nether regions. The toilet was a winner, coping with anything that came its way. However, smells did come back into the room, but I found out that people like that sort of thing in Germany. It wouldn’t put me off at all, but a balmy summer’s night could pose a challenge.
Breakfast was tended to by Welcome Man and coffee was served by a taller and hairier (on the head) version of him. I presume it was his son. There was a big buffet, plenty of fruit, salmon, cold meats, breads, yoghurt, and some cooked bacon, though I’d have liked some Nürnberger type sausages. There were also peeled, raw halved-carrots, but I’m not sure what that was all about. The vegetarians were certainly having a good munch at them.
Most of the guests were German and appeared to be affluent, matching the overall feel of the area of the residence. We paid a low price via a hotel booking website and feel that 88 Euros for a double room with breakfast was smashing.
This place gets a big “Jawohl” from me, though the location would be a deciding factor every time if a similar priced hotel was available closer to the centre.
