“A great stay for young travelers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

The Cocoon is a good spot for young travelers and couples, in a handy location in Munich. The rooms are trendy, comfortable and clean.

The street is a little bit noisy, with sirens from emergency vehicles being pretty loud.

The staff at the front desk were also very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Book a room away from the road to avoid noise.

First of all this hotel is a little mad, there are all sorts of little quirks that make it unique.
Some are more practical than others. For example the iPod dock, Egg chair and balcony seat are all nice touches that set the place apart. Other differentials are not so useful, mainly related to the bathroom facilities, the shower has a clear glass screen and is not separate from the bedroom! So if you are sharing with friends, they may need to look away!!
Also the toilet shares the same sliding door as the shower, so if someone is in the loo, you cant use the shower.

All that aside, as a traveller hotel it ticks all the boxes, it's clean, modern, close to the train station (5 minute walk), and the staff are friendly.

Highly recommended, especially if you want something a bit different!

Room Tip: Ask for a shower with a banner across it!

Dear David J,

Thank you very much for your stay and your comment. As you mentioned totally right if you want to experience something different in Munich, Hotel Coccon Sendlinger Tor is the place to go. Especially our showers are unique and therefore appreciated by our guests, but i can also understand your point.

Thanks also for your kind words about the staff, i will definitely pass that on.

We are looking forward to your next visit.

Options were limited when we booked this hotel for a business trip, but it looked OK from the website. We arrived late one evening and were given an unfriendly welcome. The receptionist said she could not find our reservation under our names or with the reservation number, but didn't seem to want to do anything about it. Given we had confirmation we had to continue insisting we had and eventually, after 15 minutes she found them. There was no offer of help with bags or shown to our room. I discovered why it's named Cocoon when I got to the room. It's very small. It was clean and had a bed, but I'm glad I didn't have to stay here more than one night as there was nowhere to put anything. I picked some of our items up from behind the bar the following morning and discovered they had broken glass all over them.I appreciate accidents happen, but they should have cleared this up properly. We had to leave at 6.30am the following morning and breakfast doesn't start until 7.30am, but there was no offer to start earlier for us.

Dear DNB571,

we are absolutely sorry to hear that we could not meet your expectations regarding your stay. I really apologize for the inconvenience at your arrival. We put special emphasis on the service towards our guests at the Cocoon. Therefore we thank you for your feedback that we take very seriously. We will focus on training our staff even more in this matter.

Let me assure you that your experience is definitely an exception and not the Cocoon-Service our guests are commenting really positive about.

You are right that our rooms are somewhat different. But that is exactly what sets us apart from other hotels. We practice a different approach regarding space which is highly appreciated by our guests.

I hope you give us another chance to welcoming you at the Cocoon Family!

Modern and efficient furnished rooms, although the performance of the WiFi could be much better. It's just a 10 minutes walk to the Marienplatz and thanks to the nearby subway station it's also a great location for starting your exploration of other parts of the city. In the streets right behind the hotel (Glockenbachviertel) there are numerous bars en restaurants where one can have breakfast, lunch, diner or just a drink: from cheap to expensive, from traditional to very alternative! The staff was very friendly.

Room Tip: Rooms at the backside of the hotel are quieter

Location was decent and a close walk (10-15 min to the subway and city center). The staff was very helpful in answering all of our questions on directions, sites and etc. although were somewhat unfamiliar with some tourist attractions that we would have expected them to know in the area, but it wasn't a huge deal. The price for the breakfast is overpriced and we opted to go elsewhere for our breakfast. The front lobby and entrance looks great and is very nice. The rooms are decent, but a bit random and cheap with the felt. The price for the accommodations was a bit expensive given that no breakfast is included, but overall still a decent stay and no real issues.

Dear Harps13,
Thanks a lot for your feedback about your stay at Hotel Cocoon. We have some new members on our team who just recently moved to Munich and we will make sure to brief them better on the spots to be in Munich. Besides, we always have some special hot spots, which you will not find in normal tour guides.

It is a pitty that you did not try our breakfast. The price is 9 Euro per person and it is a 'all you can eat buffet' with as much coffee, cappuccino, or Latte Macchiato as you want, fresh salmon, tomato mozzarella, cheese & cold cuts, salads, cereals, a fresh fruit salad, scambled & boiled eggs and always a second warm dish. In addition to that, you will find juices, Carpe Diem Kombucha and a variation of rolls and croissants. Totally worth a try...

We are looking forward to your next visit and maybe we can convince you to give it a try next time :-)

Before we booked this hotel we had a hard time finding a hotel in Munich at a reasonable price with air condition. This hotel was allegedly supposed to have it, which is why we chose it, but it did not work in our room. The staff told us that it would be fixed during the day but that never happened. So we complained and asked for a new room. Unfortunately it was full booked so we had to ask for it the next day if we still wanted a new room. The next day we did that, and they kept telling us that they would fix the air condition during the day. When we came home after a trip in the town it was all the same, and they would not let us change the room. At the end we asked to speak with the hotel manager, which gave us a 150 Euro discount. But still, it was a lot of unnecessary arguing.

The room division was not very impressive. It seemed like they had tried to make a very modern room division, but it was not functional at all. We were 3 friends who shared a room. The shower had a glass wall straight into the room, which meant that those who did not shower could see everything in the shower. We found this a bit nasty.

The breakfast was great though. Good coffee, fresh bread and great cheese. Unfortunately they were quite slow with the replenishing when there were nothing left.

Visited Munich for business, this hotel was very close both to the conference venue and to old town.
The usual German tidiness. Rich breakfast, and very modern rooms.
Good value.
