“Excellent Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

the hotel is very very close to the main train station. may be just one tram stop. its so easy to be found. the boss is very nice and she is very helpful and speaks English very good. some of the staff are not speaking good English but still very helpful. I took a small room, the heating was good but the beds are a bit small and tight and not comfy.

Good location and friendly staff. The room met our needs, however the walls are thin so noise levels were high. People returning late made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Breakfast was adequate. Be prepared for no elevator.

Reasonable walking distance from main train station. The rooms are clean, but TV does not work, and no water kettles in the rooms. The only kettle in the downstair kitchen is very dirty. The staff is nice and always smiling and happy to answer all questions. I think this is a ok location for one night bagpacks.

Room Tip: The room on the east side has big bath room.

We selected this hotel due to its proximity to the Marienplatz - which is an easy 20 minute walk. No complaints at all on the location and public parking was available nearby for 6 euro per day.

Upon arrival we were informed that the hot water was not working. The man at the desk was clearly frazzled and we didn't ask any additional questions, rather, resigned ourselves to chilly showers after we unpacked. The next morning the hot water was still out and did not return until Saturday evening for only a brief period. It was also absent on Sunday when we checked out. Needless to say, this put a significant damper on our trip and overall opinion of the pension. There was no offer to reduce our room rate either. It was explained that the hot water comes from the city, not their own system, so they were not responsible for the problem. I will take note of this for future bookings in Munich and make sure to ask if a hotel has it's own water heater to ensure the ability to take a hot shower.

Hot water aside, the hotel is very clean and though quite threadbare, has all the amenities one might need such as free WiFi, a hair dryer and soaps in the bathroom. There is no elevator so be prepared to hike up several flights if your room is on the 3rd or 4th floors. Breakfast is sufficient though modest - rolls, jam, some meats and cheese and whole fruit such as tangerine or apple. The breakfast area is two small rooms and can be quite full at peak hours so you may have to wait for a seat.

If we had been able to bathe as expected, I would have given Pension Margit another star and I probably would stay there again for the price and proximity to Munich's center. We weren't expecting the Ritz, which was a good thing, but we did indeed expect to be able to shower in something other than ice cold water. I'll book elsewhere next time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear as the street is quite noisy in the warmer months.

I have been in hundreds of hotels and this is by far the worst ever! We booked 2 rooms online. We contacted the hotel and specifically requested the rooms displayed in their photos and when we arrived the 2 rooms were totally different from the photos. For the same price, one of the rooms was half the size of the other. Over priced for basic rooms. The refrigerator smelled horrible! Bathrooms wall tiles had mold, clogged up, and gave us ripped up towels. Sheets had lipstick stains on them and the patio had trash and construction material EVERYWHERE! We Checked out within one hour and called back the following week only to be insulted and hung up on. We booked a great hotel right around the corner for 10 Euros more and it was perfect! Hotel Jedermann.

I stayed here twice because I absolutely loved the location. its only a 5 minute walk from Munich Central Train Station and about 10 minutes from the center of Munich so you are very close to the pubs and shops. The two times I stayed here (2011 and 2012) we were left waiting for at least 30 minutes to check in, it's as if nobody works in the hotel. The Wi-Fi was terrible, it only seems to work on the first two floors or in the back garden. The room we had was great, we were lucky that we got the same room two years in a row, because it had a balcony and was large for the amount that we paid.

We booked this hotel 6 months in advance as we were in Munich during Oktoberfest. On arrival there had been a mistake with our booking (to which we had confirmation emails) and the owner of the hotel was extremely rude, saying it was our fault and threatening to kick us out. We stayed only 1 night of our 3 booked as the owner of the hotel remained to be extremely rude to us in relation to this incident when we had not reacted to it at all and just wanted the matter closed. He was extremely inappropriate causing 1 of our group members to cry and afterwards stated that he was happy about that. After we left the owner continued to be rude to our friends.

Luckily for us we found an alternate hotel in Munich and really enjoyed ourselves. This hotel does not have the friendly atmosphere that you'd wish for for a holiday.
