“A Must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Well worth a visit. Experience the history - look a the bomb from the second world war. It is easy to find as it has relatively close proximity to the other attractions in the area.

“Yes this one is well worth the visit...even though...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

Fair warning. The on duty guards are worst than guard dogs. They apparently were trained to aggressively convey thing that they perceive to be not allowed on the premise. I had seen people being yelled at for talking too loud. I think the guard was louder actually. Yours truly was verbally attack for carrying a camera extender that retracted to 12 inch tube. Calm and friendly warning is not in their training apparently. And yet they are allowed to talk and argue loudly among each other while on duty. Yours truly had to pull a "Quit please this is a museum" at the arguing guards. But despite off the angry guards, the museum collection and rooms are beautiful and is worth visiting.
Hmm…museum guards…it can’t be that stressful of a job to be angry all the time.

“A great place for a rainy day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

As it was pouring rain on our visit, we needed a place indoors. The Residenz provides a good look at history, both in the Treasury and the Palace (Residenz) itself. Make sure and the use the free "self guided tour" mechanisms that will allow you to hear extra information about various items, paintings, rooms, etc. throughout the museum. Be ready to be assaulted with all that old world royalty was able to buy.

“The best museum and palace in Munich!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

From the early 16th century until 1918, the Munich Residence was home to the government administration of the Dukes and Kings of Bavaria. The Palace has undergone several expansions and reconstructions over 400 years which resulted in the massive structure you see today.

The Residence has two portions, the museum and the treasury. Each section has a seperate entry fee (7 Euros), or a combination ticket (11 Euros) if you decide to visit both. I would recommend both; however, give yourself at least four hours to do both.

The treasury is actually a vault which contains many treasures of the Royal family to include the actual Wittelsbacher crown jewels. There are ten rooms worth of displays so this tour (with an audio guide) should take between 60-90 minutes. The treasury is also the location of the coat check and toilets for the entire museum complex.

The Residence museum contains approximately 130 rooms that the public can visit (give or take a few rooms based on reconstruction/restoration). There are no guided tours of the museum; however, a well thought out audio guide is available to help you through the museum. This portion of the museum can take several hours based on your level of interest. Of specific note, the Antiquatarium (Hall of Ceasers) is absolutely magnificent and a must see for any trip to Munich.

Come rain or shine, the Residence offers an escape from the elements. Located one block away from the Marienplatz or the Odeonplatz, the Residence should be on your travel list. Do not miss this museum!
