“A bit out of the way but clean, nice, relaxing and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We've stayed in a few Novotels and always been satisfied with the service, price and facilities. This one was no different and we would recommend it for family trips or weekends away. The rooms are nice (we're not really concerned about irons and ironing boards or english-speaking TV) and the lobby/bar area is comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant is not that good with a limited selection and a bland food. The S-Bahn is a 10 minute walk around the corner and it is worthwile figuring out the nearest entrance to the S-Bahn system because the connection to the rest of the city when you get to the station are excellent. Nice pool in the hotel too.

“Corrections to importantinfo's review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

I don't normally post reviews but I feel I have to make a couple of corrections to importantinfo's review below:
1. It is true that there are no irons or ironing boards in the rooms but there is a room on the second floor (beside the lift to the pool) with 2-3 irons and ironing boards in it.
2. I'm not quite sure why you say there are no English-speaking TV or news channels. The hotel has Bloomberg, BBC World, Al Jazeera English, Sky News, Russia Today and France 24 English.
The free PCs (well they're actually Macs) in reception have a printer attached to them which is very handy!
The other thing I'd say is that you really can't hear noise from other rooms in your room - I've had some of the best nights of sleep I've ever had in this hotel.

“Recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Check in fast and friendly, room clean, modern, quiet and spacious. Shopping mall, large supermarket and underground station next door under the Holiday Inn. Only downside is no iron, ironing boards or face cloths supplied and lack of English speaking TV or news channels. 2 x free internet PCs in reception. Cab rank close by. The buffet breakfast is amazingly good. 5 Minute walk to museum and around 30 min walk across the bridge to town and food market. Highly recommended hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms NOT on ground floor are best, there are no 'good view' rooms but who goes to Munich f...

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Easily accessible from the City Center by underground urban train this hotel is great for a weekend or longer stay. Clean and comfortable with friendly staff and a good choice for breakfast. Restaurant food was good and friendly bar for relaxing. Will use again.

“Good enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

One of the reasons we chose the Novotel Muenchen City is that it is NOT in the tourist center of Munich which is pretty much the area bordered by the Hauptbanhof (or central train station) and Marienplatz and surroundings north and south of Marienplatz. The Novotel Muenchen City is just 2 stops away from Marienplatz on the S-bahn, and the S-bahn station is less than a 10 minute walk part of which is through a small shopping center underneath the Holiday Inn (a couple of buildings away from the Novotel), which is helpful on a cold and/or rainy day. So if one wants to stay within the tourist area, the Novotel Muenchen City is not a good choice.

In terms of the room, we booked the cheapest double room so it was small as expected but like the other Novotel we stayed at in Singapore, is designed to maximize space. We got a room facing the street (with very little road traffic) which is beside a small park and a brook so it was quiet and had a nice view. The bed was just right, not too soft or too firm. But the pillows were really soft but as we would discover going around Germany, this is standard in any type of accommodation (we stayed in 3-5 star hotels and inns). What we didn't like is that the bathroom (shower only) and the toilet are separate and not beside each other as one would expect but in different parts of the room! One needs to walk around the corner from the toilet to the bathroom to wash hands. For this reason and the fact that wi-fi is not free, I can't give this hotel a 5.

The amenities were very basic though there are no cotton buds, comb, slippers, etc. and just shampoo, bath gel and shower cap. But unlike the Novotel in Singapore where the towels were surprisingly plush, the towels here are as thin as kitchen towels.

We didn't check out the facilities or eat in the restaurant (got a promo rate that didn't include breakfast) so can't comment on those. I noticed, though, that if one wants to have breakfast in the room (ie room service), there's no a la carte menu so one pays the same price as having the buffet breakfast in the restaurant but there's a surcharge for having the food delivered to the room. However, there's a notice that there's free pastries and coffee from 4:30-6:30 so good for early birds or those with early departures.

Lastly, in terms of service, the front desk staff were helpful and spoke good English. But as we have discovered traveling through Europe, hotels that are not 5-stars don't have the usual services that one finds even in 3-star hotels in most of Asia and parts of the US like concierge, bellhops and doormen so don't expect any help with the luggage or hailing a cab (Europe hotels seem to encourage D-I-Y).
