“Great atmosphere, lots of fun, chill people and yummy food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2009

This place was so much fun to stay in! Everything was really clean, the bathrooms/showers where never full and they have lots of places to hang out. The food was organic, really good and really cheap. Internet was .50 per 15 mins. Ask for more blankets than you think you need because it is really cold and they don't give you a pillow. Try and get a bottom bunk because sometimes the top ones get dew on them.

This place is great! We stayed there for 3 nights and could've stayed longer - although it's outside Munich it's easy to get the tram (get a 3 day pass which works out at a very reasonable price as you'll use it a lot), so the location isn't a problem. Staff all very friendly, and beds surprisingly very comfortable if you get lots of blankets - I slept better there than at many other hostels. Shower and toilet facilities very good. The best things were probably the atmosphere and the food - it's very laid back so you can easily meet people and join in with a game of table football etc., and there are catering facilities as well as a cafe, so either way you can eat really cheaply (you can buy enough breakfast, e.g. rolls to last for lunch as well for about 3 euros, then eat a good evening meal for about the same price - no beating it!). Definitely would return here.

I stayed here 3 nights. Super friendly and helpful staff; everyone speaks English perfectly and they make you feel at home! Awesome environment in the common room at nights (bar, delicious dinner at a very accesible price, movies in English, board games, books, magazines etc). Free use of guest kitchen; very clean and well equipped. I found everything I needed in it: fridge, stove, microwave, pots, pans, plates, silverware, and even oil, salt and other spices. Enough bathrooms and showers for all (I never had to wait in line) and they were always very clean. You get your own personal locker to keep your valubales in (take your own padlock!) You can choose your own bed (they give you a tag to put on it to know who it belongs to) and you can also get as many covers as you want (it gets a bit cold at night since it's an actual GIANT TENT- sort of like a circus tent but all white). Location: A bit far from downtown and the main sites, but easily reachable by tram. If you're traveling on a budget it's really worth staying all the way here for the incredible price (even paying for the trams you'll still be saving a lot of money than staying downtown!) and its great people and environment!

  • Liked — The common room/restaurant/bar!
  • Disliked — A bit far from downtown

Positives... the atmosphere is great, friendly and laid back, and you can ask the staff for advice on stuff
food is very cheap breakfast and dinner about 1 euro each!
you can have as many blankets as you want (as it is freeeezing)
showers were suprisingly ok
it might be a fair way out, but is easy to get to.
It's not really that noisy because they have to be quiet at a certain time for all the neighbours.
Negatives... freezing! Even in August!
I had the most broken mattress ever, so it was almost impossible to sleep

First off, know that this is not a hostel, and if you are looking for a full night of quality sleep, you will not be getting it here.

However, if you are looking for a place where the accommodation is as much of an experience as the trip itself, then this place is like no other.

It's ridiculously cheap. You sleep on a wooden floor with a foam pad and some blankets. You store your stuff in one of the old, beat-up lockers scattered around the perimeter of the tent. The bathrooms are clean and adequate.

I'm not normally the type of person who likes to stay up late (I prefer to see stuff during the day, which means I generally try to get up at a decent time); however, we had such a blast hanging out with people from all over the world around the campfire that we never went to bed earlier than 3 AM. I don't regret it at all - that was perhaps the most memorable part of my time in Munich.

  • Liked — The unique, international experience
  • Disliked — Since it was one large tent, all it takes is one noisy person

The Tent is for the most part a camping experience in a more suburban neighborhood of Munich. A guest can sleep either in a personal tent on the grounds, on the floor with blankets or in a bunk bed.

Overall the Tent Munich is great. There's not much to do in the surrounding neighborhood, so one can ride tram 17 towards downtown and have their fun.

One might deal with excessive noise from the other visitors until around 3:00. The guests love to have a good time. They sing and many can play musical instruments. It can be a blast at the Tent. Some do sleep despite the noise. The Tent is safe for the most part, but do bring a lock to use on a locker or locks for your baggage to keep your things secure.

The showers and the restroom facilities are modern and very well kept by the staff. May God bless them. :D

Best of all, the prices cannot be BEAT by any other lodging of Munich! I paid 7.50 Euros / 10 USD per night to sleep on the floor. Trust me that with enough blankets all flat surfaces are comfortable.

  • Liked — I like that the accomodation is in a natural setting.
  • Disliked — I liked least that the large tents were a bit messy from litter and split food and drink.
