“Superb position, fantastic staff, lovely room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

We spent six days in Munich just before Christmas and couldn't have chosen a better hotel. The Anna is an easy walk from the train station and right at the hub of the city. Having said that, it felt calm and quiet (we had a room overlooking the pedestrianised side of the hotel rather than the street side).

The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. We arrived on a very early train, but were able to check in at 10.30, rather than having to walk around in a half-dazed state till the 3pm normal check-in time.

The room was large with lovely picture windows, so it felt airy and light. The bathroom was big too, with a great shower. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings just right. Strangely, it also had the cheapest mini bar we've ever come across. Usually, you steer clear of using them because you're likely to find some huge additions to the bill. Here, though, every item was 1 euro, so it was actually a useful addition to the room.

Breakfasts were included in our 185 euro/night price and were delicious. A buffet of fruits, cereals, lots of different kinds of bread, meat, cheeses, smoked salmon, eggs and more. Best of all, though, they were served until 11am (12noon at weekends). That made mornings feel luxurious rather than rushed.

We'd recommend it absolutely.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the pedestrianised side of the hotel.

We booked an Upper Deck Room for a weekend of Xmas markets in Munich. The location of the hotel on Karlsplatz is excellent. Its right next to a major station on the route from the airport and is within very easy walking from the centre of Munich.

There were two irritations on arriving. First, reception was a bit off, giving us the wrong guests registration card to fill in and the wifi codes written illegibly on key card requiring a trip back down to reception to get it deciphered. Secondly, the only public areas of the hotel are a small reception and a bar restaurant leading off reception. On arriving, we were told that the restaurant/bar were not available as they were being used for a private function. I am sorry, but when you book a hotel room, you don't only book a room, you book the availability of the facilities of the hotel. Its not like it was one bar/restaurant from a couple of options that was not available, it was the ONLY facilities and they werent available.

The room was fine, its big enough, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom well appointed. Its probably time for a bit of a paint spruce up with scuff marks on walls and whoever thought to put the tv on a stand at the foot of the bed so a view of the tv is part obscured needs to rethink the stand.

The breakfast in the restaurant was very good. A lovely selection of fruits, juices, meats, cheeses, cereals and hot breakfast dishes. The fact that its all included in the rate is even better. Another bonus is the mini bar in the room. Every item in the mini bar is priced at 1 euro a piece....yes, only 1 euro. I don't understand why they bother charging but we had a very nice half bottle of wine, waters, soft drinks, nuts and it all cost peanuts! Unfortunately the restock of the mini bar didn't include restocking all the items so we couldn't take advantage of the 1euro offer more than once.

On the second evening we were heading out for a late dinner so decided to order some room service of wine and snacks to tide us over as we hadn't had a big lunch. At that point we discovered that there is no room service menu, as such. There is however a desk stand with a code you need to use a code reader on an iphone and scan which brings up your room service availability and you also use it to order. Ok, so fortunately we have the required iphone and downloaded the free app to the phone, registered the service and finally found ourselves in a position to be fortunate to order some room service.....very cutting edge! The order was placed at 1815 and when by 1900 it hadn't arrived, a call to reception was placed where we were told they had no record of our order. So, the thing about using cutting edge technoloy is that you have to make sure that it all works and is very user friendly. Many apologies from the reception desk and then half an hour later as we were getting ready to leave for dinner, very hungry I might add, we got a call to say our order had now come through and they would send it up as soon as possible and comp the bottle of wine. This was declined, well there was no point, we were about to leave for dinner. When we arrived back at the hotel later, there was a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us with a letter of apology. I do understand that things sometimes go wrong and its to the reception staffs credit that they were genuinely apologetic for the error but I do maintain, have cutting edge technology but make sure its up to the guests needs.

So, not the greatest experience and for the cost of 750 euro for three nights I would have expected a little bit more but on the other hand, the hotel is very well situated for a stay in Munich.

What a great Hotel, great staff, great Large room (standard room), great location not too far away from Marienplatz, breakfast was great, as was the coffee served, the subway and underground passage directly in front of the Hotel for ease of access to trains to and from Airport and Marienplatz. We stayed for 3 nights over Xmas market period, the room was always spotless and smelled nice on return. Would definitely return to this wonderful Comfortable, Cosy Hotel.

Room Tip: The subway passage out the front of the Hotel will take you to the entrance of the pedestrian mall a...

Stayed here again for two nights in November based on our previous stay here. Again, all was good. Staff friendly and helpful, room was clean and spacious, even got an early check in! Breakfast had a good and varied selection, including the tea selection. Can’t wait to stay here again. Location is excellent, right on Karlsplatz and a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof.

The hotel is in a good location, but it wasn't the boutique hotel I expected.
Big rooms but tired furniture, black marble in the bathroom but with white (calcium) deposits and very limited toiletries.Breakfast ok, not impressive.
For 180 Eur/night I was expecting more!

We stayed at the Anna Hotel in mid October this year. When we arrived, the lobby, bar and restaurant were in a state of total disarray. We were told that a movie was being filmed in the bar/restaurant. We later learned that they were actually photographing the lounge area to celebrate their 10th anniversity of the hotel. The party would begin that evening but hotel guests were not invited. So the restaurant and bar would not be available to hotel guests that Sat evening. We thought no big deal...we'd go downtown for dinner and a drink.

When we returned to the hotel around 10:30 pm we walked up a ramp which was the only entrance to the lobby and the hotel. We were abruptly stopped by security as we tried to enter. We said we were hotel guests and they looked at us like were trying to crash this extremely loud party. We went to our room a bit miffed that we were treated like vagrants.

We were in a 6th floor junior suite. The music was deafening with techno type dance music. We felt they would turn the music down at any time but the music continued to blare. It was impossible to sleep with the extremely loud bass and at midnight it seemed to have gotten even louder. Finally, at 1 am I called the front desk and the phone rang at least 25 times before someone answered. I could hardly hear the desk person since the music was so loud at his end and ours. He said the party would continue to 2 or 3 am. Unbelievable. I fell asleep at 2:30 am when the music finally stopped.

I mentioned the aforementioned to the very sweet female desk clerk the next morning and she was extremely apologetic. She sent over fresh squeezed orange juice. That evening another very accomodating female clerk brought us a bottle of champagne to our room. These 2 wonderful ladies tried to rectify an incredibly inconsiderate decision by the owners of the hotel to hold such a blow out party which made sleeping impossible.

This elaborate and expensive party was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary. However they should have spent the money to spruce up the hotel. The toilet seats were wooden and were peeling. The hardwood floors were in dire need of refinishing. Everything was a bit tired.

I would have given this a hotel 2 stars for the above reasons but these 2 staff people elevated it to a 3 star rating. The breakfast was great as was the location. However, no way should this hotel get 4 stars. We stayed in 6 different cities in Europe and this was our least favorite hotel. We go to alot of concerts and are accustomed to loud music but not at hotel where we were paying top dollar for a room. A very bad decision by management.

Trains are so loud and go throughout the night - the girlfriend could hear them on Skype. The heaters make a lot of noise when turned on. No room service. No irons - they were all leant out already. Train (another one just went by and it's 1am) sound like a crazy wind howling by + road sounds too. Avoid if you actually want sleep or if here for business.
