“Great experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Uhland, a lovely place in a mostly residential area. We had a recently renovated room that was very modern and large. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. About a 20 minute walk to the city center, it's a few short minutes to the U-bahn and train station. Breakfast was excellent.

Room Tip: Some rooms are recently renovated.

This hotel has high ceilings and our corner room was big for us and our 2 kids. It was great to have a parking place behind the hotel for our rental car. Hotel is about 20+ min walk center of town and was bit too far to come and go to often. We left the windows open and was quiet during the night / day. It was nice to have a big octoberfest park right next door for morning jog/walk. Breakfast is really good.

This is a great base while visiting Munich and the surrounding areas. Within walking distance of the main train station and the central historic district. There are also great restaurants and pubs within walking distance.

Breakfast was great. The rooms are large but basic. The ensuite in our room was very small with just enough room for a shower stall, toilet and sink but we did have one of the smallest rooms in the hotel.

The price was very reasonable.

We stayed at the Uhland for 3 nights as part of a 4-hotel tour of Bavaria. Being so close to the Hauptbahnhof the approach to the Uhland is a bit offputting, having to go past some shabby shops and properties. The hotel itself though is a very smart Edwardian style mansion on a quiet residential street. The welcome we received was genuine, efficient and very helpful. Our room was a bit faded but nevertheless quite elegant with a balcony onto the street. The en suite was getting on in age but still worked OK. Breakfast was excellent and again the service could not be faulted. The hotel is within 3 minutes walk of an U-bahn station from where it is a 5 minute ride to the heart of the city. A very convenient location and a very nice hotel.

Hotel Uhland is plenty nice and it's affordable but the location took away some of its appeal for us. The historic home was beautiful on the outside and in common areas and the neighborhood in the blocks immediately surrounding it were nice.

The rooms were done fairly cheaply, which was in definite contrast to the outside and lobby. My guess is that it's because it's pet friendly but the carpet, bedding and such just seemed bare bones. It was clean and, for the price, I didn't mind the somewhat institutional feel of the actual room. There was an unfortunate sulphuric smell from the water or something that was really strong though when we entered the room each time after being out for a while. We had to open the windows wide to air it out every time. This bothered my husband more than me but it would be annoying to many.

The neighborhood beyond the hotel felt pretty seedy. It's within walking distance to the train station and there are several large chain hotels but it seems to be a poorer part of town. It didn't feel unsafe but there are several "adult entertainment" establishments in the area and it's not always comfortable to walk by them. It is very close to the park where Oktoberfest is held--just a couple of blocks away--which makes it a prime location if you go for that event. There are also many cheap produce markets, grab-and-go food options and a laundromat close by catering to the many immigrants in the neighborhood.

The breakfast was good with lots of traditional German options and some things thrown in for Americans too, such as common cereals and peanut butter. The service was nice in the restaurant and the front desk was friendly and helpful also. We went in October so as to avoid the Oktoberfest craziness--it had just ended--but the hotel was packed. It's in Rick Steves's book but we were pretty much the only Americans. It seemed to be a popular spot for French and other Germans--breakfast was a great spot to hear many languages spoken!

If not for the odor, which is something I don't think they can help, and the cheap decor, I'd have given it four stars. The reality is you won't be in your room much if you're in Munich anyway though so this was a pretty good value.

Room Tip: We had a room that overlooked the street and had nice dormer windows that opened. Noise didn't s...

This small hotel is lovely! Through our European trip, this was our favorite hotel. It's like a renovated beautiful mansion. The front desk staff is so very friendly and helpful. They allowed us to get into our room in the morning since our train had arrived in Munich at 7:15 a.m. We walked to the hotel and found our room was large, clean, and the bathroom was beautiful. We rested a while before heading into Munich for Mike's Bike Tour. In the evening we had to do some laundry so we walked a couple of blocks up the street with a suitcase full of dirty clothes. We met several nice tourists there and actually enjoyed the wait on the laundry. We had dinner at a great local restaurant called Lenz Cafe. The breakfast in the common area was really nice. Had a nice variety of hot and cold items that were beautifully displayed. We loved Munich and want to go back! I would definitely stay at Hotel Uhland again.

We stayed here for a total of 4 nights, 2 different rooms. Both rooms were very clean & comfortable. Good, free WIFI reception from one room, but not able to access it from the other (needed to step out into the hallway). Staff, particularily at reception, were very helpful & friendly. Location of the hotel is excellent in a very quiet, leafy green neighbourhood & near the subway. Also within walking distance of the old town. Breakfast buffet was plentiful with lots to choose from. I would definitely stay here again & I highly recommend this hotel to others.
