“One Of The Best Hotels In The World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

I wish to remain anonymous. I have never felt compelled to write a Trip Advisor review before. I have used Trip Advisor for many years, and after this stay in Munich, I felt it necessary to share my experience.

I travelled to Munich for a combination of Wedding Anniversary, Birthday and Business Meeting. Christmas Markets and Shopping in to the mix, and we had a busy 5 days planned.

Staying at a fine hotel to my mind, is the ultimate reward for most of us. Staying at a fine hotel with your loved ones, is one of life's great pleasures. The opulence of it all , the fine food and drink, the attention and service lavished upon us, and the feeling of total comfort and relaxation is, an experience that I shall never tire of. In fact, after a memorable stay at a fine hotel, I arrive home and immediately commence planning of my next vacation.

The problem is... trying to improve, or at least replicate upon the last experience, is a constant effort and worry. How do you ensure that your next holiday, will be your best ever...

Trip Advisor is the obvious answer. We search through all of the Trip Advisor reports and ratings, and make, what we consider to be an educated guess.

Or, you can just guarantee that you will have a truly memorable and World class stay, and visit the Mandarin Oriental Munich.

My family and I are very well travelled, and we have stayed in some of the finest hotels in the World over the past 10 years or so. The Mandarin Oriental Munich certainly falls into this category. The facility, the service, the rooms, the restaurant and pretty much every other aspect of the hotel, is perfect. The staff, are amongst the best that I have ever come across, and the stay was exceptional in every way.

Dominik, Laura, Dario and Patric to name but a selection, are a fabulous team to entrust your stay to. Every possible aspect of our stay, was taken care of with the utmost attention paid to our enjoyment.

They really did make us feel like royalty.

We had booked a Mandarin Junior Suite for 4 nights. We were given a complimentary upgrade to the fabulous Presidential suite. With excellent views of the Munich skyline, it is a room that I could have in all honesty, never left...

We did however want to experience Munich and the World famous Christmas Markets.

We had the pleasure of a chauffeur service with Jurgen, and I cannot stress enough that this a costly option, yet it is worth every penny, and even if you only make use of the driver for a few hours, it is a fantastic manner in which to be given a guided tour of the beautiful Munich city and surrounding areas.

The hotel is grand, petite yet very cosy. The staff are polite, courteous and it is very evident that they thrive on making your stay as wonderful as possible. The service, food and facility are second to none and I wish I was still there now.

I visited four of the other main 5 star hotels in Munich, had a look at their suites, facilities etc, and they fall well short of the Mandarin Munich.

If you are thinking of visiting Europe, let alone Germany. Please allow yourselves the pleasure of a guaranteed trip to savour, at the Munich Oriental.

Only negative, and it is a small negative is... NO SPA!!!

Room Tip: All suites are exceptional and very quiet.

We checked into the Mandarin Oriental, room 203 on the second floor --- the lowest floor with rooms. The room is huge. It has three single beds and a living room. It has a walk in closet as well as drawers in the wall. The ceiling is at least 15 feet high. There is a hallway that leads into a bathroom with both a tub and a shower. There's even a bidet in a separate enclosure and a TV on the wall. In front of the room you can light up do not disturb or make up this room. The room comes with a doorbell.Gary went up to the rooftop cafe just before 9:00PM to take photos. The churchbells in Munich were starting to ring and the sun was starting to set. He took some of the best photos of the trip to Germany last summer. The downside was Mark's Restaurant for breakfast. Two of us were included in the room rate, but my son had to pay $40.00 for a breakfast buffet that wasn't as good as most of the other less expensive hotels we'd stayed at. There was hardly any choice of rolls or cereals.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are closer to Mark's Restaurant.

Stayed at the Munich Mandarin from Nov19th-22nd 2012,The hotel is situated in the heart of munich old town, couldnt be better placed for all the sights .The hotel its self is small and cosy with wonderful decor. My friend and i shared a twin mandarin room very nice and spotlessly clean, the bathroom only had one wash basin no real problem but at nearly £600 a night i thought a twin room would have two basins. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the cocktail bar is small and intimate with the ubiquitous pianist and expensive drinks. The only real complaint is that the roof top chalet which serves traditional Bavarian food and beer and is excellent, and was the main reason for staying at the mandarin was closed two out of the three nights we stayed due to private functions. Just one more tip there seems to be lot of building work in the area , if you dont want waking up by jack hammers at 6.30am dont have a room at the front of the building.

i stayed at the property for 2 nights on the 13th decemeber and have to say the junior suite we stayed in was excellent ,but when you pay the premium expected for this type of property you,d expect that ,what you wouldn,t expect is to wait on the first morning 20 minutes to be seated for breakfast and then to have to ask for menus for individual orders ,as it seems on my 2 days at breakfast that they don,t really want to offer you the menu option as it,s easier to just leave everyone use the buffett on offer ,now i really looked to stretch them by ordering 2 hardboiled eggs and some brown toast ,20-30 minutes later nothing had showed so i chased up the waitress ,who thought i,d already recieved them , only for them eventually to turn up under cooked and amazingly no toast ever turned up ,so i made a complaint and got re-imbursed for the cost , now after this experience i fully expected breakfast ont he second morning to run smoothly but it wasn,t to be ,i ordered the same order and did get correct cooked eggs ,ok after 20 minutes ,but it seems like the brown toast was a little tricky again ,as it turned up white ,but there we are an improvement on the previous day ,i didn,t bother complaining as it got me knowhere on the first day.
As for location it is excellent ,just a 5 min walk to the main square ,there is a pool but it,s outdoors and frozen over winter and the gym is small but adequate .

Dear Mr Griffiths,

Furthermore I want to express my embarrassment on the service quality mishaps you experienced during breakfast. Our colleagues of the breakfast team have read your observation on the shortcomings and additionally would like to apologize. This is certainly not the norm, however we did not manage to provide you with superior service during your visit to the restaurant; in order to avoid occurrences of such nature, we conducted additional training.

My wife and I spent two nights here on a visit to the Munich Christmas Markets. Our welcome was warm and comprehensive. We had been upgraded from a superior to a deluxe room and basically this meant we got more space but was nevertheless very welcome. The rooms are extremely comfortable and in this case, spacious. Housekeeping is of a very high standard. Public rooms are warm and comfortable, service is quite excellent. Interestingly the doorman knew our name as we left the hotel to explore Munich some 30 minutes after our arrival. We dined at the BistroMo on our first night and the table d'hote menu was interesting and reasonably priced for a Munich 5* hotel. Breakfast on both days were superb, one in the room and one in the main dining room. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any visitor to the fine and interesting city of Munich. A lovely hotel as you might expect from Mandarin Oriental but it is made extra special bythe staff. Check in and the services of the concierge were both, in our case, quite excellent!

Room Tip: All rooms, even the smallest are incredibly well equipped, so don't worry if your finances dicta...

This was my 2nd stay at the Mandarin in Munich - this time it was a solo trip and it was just as amazing. Pros - location, incredible service, beautiful room. Cons - it was a very late check-in (3pm), however, the staff did everything in their power to make the wait comfortable. I've been lucky to have visited the Mandarin properties in San Francisco and Miami, and the service and attentiveness of the staff in Munich are the best by far. Wunderbar!

Excellent, cozy rooms. Great restaurant on the roof, very professional and polite staff. All our requests were immediately fulfilled. My best recommendations. Prestine location close to all the main attractions of Munich. Very good concierge service. Will definitely stay here if I come to Munich again.
