“Great place, very convenient to train and old city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

Loved this hotel, the desk clerk was helpful and provided recommendations for wonderful local eateries. He also gave us directions for touring on our own - very helpful and extremely friendly. The only down side was the night club across the street. It can get loud at night but I was able to sleep through the night. My roomie shut the window and was able to go back to sleep. We ate breakfast and it was a grand spread. I will stay here again when I return to Munich.

Room Tip: request a room facing the back of the hotel, it will be a bit quieter

Was moved here as the Hotel Treffe was overbooked. Really great staff, good rooms and one of the best breakfasts I have ever had in a German hotel. Only downside was the bistro adjoining hotel was run as a separate business so food and drinks were cash only and could not be charged to the room.

At less than 70 Euros per night (two people / double room), the Astor is good value for the money. Very clean, with bright & airy rooms and nice, firm mattresses. The bathrooms even sport a tub. Staff were friendly and accommodating. It's about 5 minutes from the train station, and just a few more to the altstadt.

One suggestion: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard -- Schillerstrasse boasts a rather colorful nightlife scene, and it can get a tad boisterous on the sidewalks. We didn't hear a thing on the backside of the hotel.

Room Tip: See suggestion above.

I stayed in Munich for one night and needed a cheap but good hotel close to the train station. Both are factors that benefit the Astor, which is located about 600m from the stations exit. When arriving, one might find it curious that one of the ground floor windows belongs to a table dance bar next door. When entering, everything looks nice and tidy. The check-in was uncomplicated, though the receptionist was a bit to casual for my taste. The room itself was clean, but could need a renovation. That is also the reason why I would say it is not worth 4 stars anymore, but rather 3.

we stayed for one night. it was because we went to see the Bayan Munich Vs Arsenal game. it was in a great location, about 5 minutes walk from the station, the only down side is that you could hear the music from the 'Strip' Club next door. this didnt really affect me as i was really tired. but over all i was happy

3 of us came over for the Bayern Munich v Arsenal game.
We had a triple room which was effectively a room with 3 single beds, mine was a bid noisy but didn't really bother me or anyone else given the amount we had to drinks!
We stayed Monday to Thursday, place is very clean, friendly staff etc.
Mini bar is a rip off like every other hotel on this planet.
We were pleasantly surprised that our room had sky tv (albeit mainly German) with a few sports channels.

We didn't eat in the bistro downstairs but the food looked good from what we saw.

I wouldn't worry about the strip clubs at all. There are 2 or 3 on the street and 1 next door to the hotel, there's no noise (our room was facing the main road) and all we got was a few of the girls banging on windows trying to entice us in as you would expect when three lads are walking past one of these places. Prob not the best place for a family to stay just because of the clubs and video shops along the street but for us this place was fine.

We paid €107 each for our triple room for the 3 nights, check in from 12pm, check out at 11am.

The location isn't great for getting to the Marienplatz. You can walk there but it's a good 15/20 mins. There's a club we found called Milch Bar which was good and just up the road from the hotel.
There is a lot of variety in terms of places to eat, everything from pizza and Lebanese to McDonald's and Burger king all within a few Mins walk.
We used to get reception to order us a cab which only ever took about 5 mins to turn up and cost about €9 to get to the Marienplatz and a couple more to the Hofbrauhaus.
Next time we come over to Munich we will prob try and find a hotel closer to the centre albeit paying a little more.
That's just our preference though, this hotel is very good and I can't think of anything bad about it other than my squeaky bed!
