The day started with only two couples on the tour, which allowed us to be quite flexible and see more than the regular tour. So we left Munich for a visit to Linderhof castle with its terraced gardens. Upon arrival we had time to look at the gift shops and enjoy a wonderful butter pretzel. Next we had plenty of time to enjoy the grounds before leaving for "the back way" to Neuschwanstein.
After passing beautiful mountains, rivers, and a canyon lake we arrived at Neuschwanstein castle . We sat down for lunch with Brad and enjoyed his rugby stories and amazing magic while eating schnitzel and a beer. It was nearly time to go on the tour of the castle so we walked and enjoyed the magnificent scenery of lakes, Hohenschwangau castle, and St. Mary's bridge. The castle tour was very interesting and did not take a long time, but the real surprise was still waiting. We headed back towards St. Mary's Bridge, but took a turn that lead us to the gorge below the bridge. I have to say this is one amazing hike along the river!
At the end of the trail we headed back to towards the car then back to Munich for dinner. Like I said, what a fantastic day of sightseeing, laughing, and learning. Mike was a great guide and knew everything about all of Munich and the castle region. Thanks for a great day!
