“Unexpected treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

My family stayed at this beautiful hotel on a trip to tour Germany. Given that it is connected to the Munich Airport, we were expecting the typical airport hotel. What a surprise to find a beautiful and comfortable four star hotel. After flying all night from the US, it was so easy to simply walk out of the airport into the Kempinski. The staff could not have been nicer to us. One person at the front door even accompanied me to the corner to show me where to catch a bus to a nearby small town. It is super easy to walk out the front door to the train station to catch a train to downtown Munich. The restaurant at the hotel had a beautiful buffet at breakfast and dinner. Our stay at the Kempinski was outstanding and we will stay there again if we find ourselves in Munich.

I stayed here for three days. I added the business package but, still had to pay for Internet.

Staff is fast and efficient. Rooms are clean.

If you are here on business you can't beat the location. However, they miss a few things.

No iron in the room, seriously?

No doorman when walking from the terminal, make sure you don't miss it.

Wifi doesn't roam. Room to lobby you have to keep paying for Internet again and again.

Having about 24 hour between the end of our ski holiday in Austria and our departing flight we decided to stay at the Airport, and commute to Munich for the day. The S-Bahn is @ about 2 mins walk from the Hotel Lobby , and at a cost of €20 for unlimited 24hr use of Munich's public transport system for up to 5 people, it must rate as one of Europe's travel bargains
The Hotel is stunning, an oasis of giant palm trees surrounds the lobby bar situated in a soaring atrium, The staff are super helpful, elegant,.and welcoming. Our porter not only took our bags(skis and all that bulky gear) from our room but directly to the Lufthansa check in desk in T2. ( it was at his suggestion NOT ours!). The Restaurant was very pleasant, with a great wine list on an I Pad, informative and beautifully done. Food competent, and very well presented, good service, an all-round success. Finally the rooms--Extremely large, spotlessly clean, very well equipped, totally sound proofed ( to the point where we were worried about take off in foggy conditions, we couldn't hear any aircraft noise, once outside the Hotel we could hear them all-right!). The tariff is upper end (about €180/200 per double) but worth it for the obvious quality. We will return for sure.

Room Tip: We took "Standard" and for an overnight stay it was more than ample. You don't have to...

The primary reason to stay here was the proximity to the airport. From the hotel lobby to the airport entrance was about a two minute walk. However, the amazing architecture was a very pleasant surprise. The décor was a bit busy, but the plants were lovely.
The room was quite large by European standards and was very clean. The "king" bed was two twins with separate linens that were pushed together. No top sheet, though - still searching for that in Europe. The temperature was a bit warm although I had the thermostat turned completely down. It was very quiet.

The bathroom was a bit tricky. The tub was very difficult to get in for a short person. The tub came to my middle thigh. I requested a stool to help, but they had none. The shower was great, but there was no way to keep water from going all over the floor. The wastebasket was too small and was not lined. It was embarrassing to throw icky bathroom tissues, Q-Tips, etc into an unlined wastebasket. The towels were great and every sundry that you could need was provided. Big plus: This is the only European hotel I have ever been in which had washcloths!

The biggest disappointment was the 6 EUR per hour charge for internet. This is shocking in this day and age when internet should be included. I am not sure they know the meaning of the word "included", though. I was charged 22 EUR over the quoted rate for the breakfast which was supposedly "included". A bottle of water in the lobby bar was 9 EUR. That seems a bit excessive.

This is a lovely hotel, but the nickel and diming leaves a bad taste. This was somewhat mitigated by the staff which was top notch. They were friendly, efficient and competent. Overall, this is a lovely hotel and most people would enjoy it.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for allowing us to host you during your recent visit and for taking the time to share your experiences here on TripAdvisor.
We really appreciated your positive rating of our staff as well as of the architecture and location of the hotel.
The more unfortunate it is that due to separately accounted services on your invoice, you were rather irritated and disappointed.
Due to the German tax law (room night 19 % tax, breakfast 7% tax), all services need to be accounted separately on each invoice although the breakfast is included.

That we could not entirely meet your expectation regarding our bathroom is very regrettable. It is our intention too, to optimize the current set up. Since this will take a certain amount of time, I herewith kindly request you for your patience.

Please get back to me directly via email (claudia.soost@kempinski.com) for questions or information concerning your last stay with us. It will be my pleasure to assisting you.
We look forward to welcoming you back at Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich.

Yours sincerely,

Claudia Soost

Did you ever wake up the morning of your flight, grabbed your suitcase and walked over form your hotel room to the airport gate? This hotel is located in the heart of the terminal. We stayed here the last night of our trip since we had a morning flight and did not want to worry about traffic on the day of the flight.
We arrived in the evening, checked in them went to return our rental car. The rental car return garage is across the road, and open till midnight. After returning the car we simply walked back over to the hotel.
Had dinner at the hotel, which was very very good, and very very expensive. You can always walk over to the terminal for more choices of food.
Wifi is at a cost, but you can use the business center for a free 15 minutes to check into your flight and print boarding passes.
Breakfast was very good. After it we just walked over to the gate. It is such a good start for a day of traveling, not worrying about taxis and traffic

I arrived at 10am and the friendly receptionist did try to do her best to find a room straight away, but helpfully completed the checkin process and stored my bag while I went to the exhibition for the day. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful with a true 5 star professionalism. The room was spacious, cleanly and well appointed. My only complaint was that I could not find the tea & coffee making supplies in the room.
The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from Terminal 2 or about 5 minute walk from Terminal 1 arrivals and is well signposted from the terminals.
I ate in the Lindbergh restaurant, excellent choice, great staff and good food.
