“Central location, comfy bed, few flaws”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

I stayed at Hotel Daniel for four nights over New Year's Eve.
First off, I really liked the breakfast times which lasted until 10:30, on 1 January even 12:00. Well, I'm used to hotels where one can have breakfast until 9:00 and, depending on the type of trip, I might sleep a little longer than 9:00 but okay - let's get back to topic.
The beds were really comfortable and of a good hardness. We got a really big room but the bathroom was tiny - I had to close the door to be able to sit on the toilet or to enter the shower cabin. But I was okay with that.
The location of the hotel is unbeatable in my eyes because it is located between the train station and the main shopping avenue.
The reception team was extremely nice excluding one person.
Breakfast wasn't my cup of tea but nourishing. Don't try to order an Espresso because they can only do 'long coffees'. That disappointed me a little bit but I compensated it with a frappuccino from the Starbucks right around the corner.
The price, especially for that time (29.12.12-02.01.13), was competitive and okay.
If you're not complicated and picky and look for a three-star hotel in the midst of Munich, choose Hotel Daniel.

Room Tip: Room 305 and 307, as far as I remember.

“It's near the station and it's clean...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

The reason we chose the Daniel was it's location, right at the edge of the main pedestrian zone of central Munich and also right next to the S-Bahn to/from the airport and only 5 mins walk from the central station. With hindsight now we would rather look for a hotel closer to the Marienplatz behind the Altes Rathaus and also around the Viktualienmarkt as this is the main tourist hub and you find yourself doing the 15 min walk to/from the hotel a few times a day. There are less touristy restaurants and bars next door, round the back and heading towards the Hauptbahnhof but these just don't cut the mustard of the big brauhaus in the centre!
As for the hotel, it's in the budget bracket but for what you actually get it's at the top end of this bracket for price and bottom for value. Breakfasts are €9 extra per person and are the standard continental fare of cereal, rolls, meats, cheeses etc. In all honesty, the breakfasts are ludicrously over priced and I wouldn't recommend them. The reception staff were polite and helpful and the reception is manned 24hr a day. Even if you do have to wake up the night porter on occasion!
As others have mentioned there are 2 groups of rooms, on the front and round the back. We had a room round the back therefore didn't have any street noise however the windows open up onto a courtyard shared with the restaurants/bars next door so you can get noise from them. The room was small, cosy some may say, but impeccably clean. Maids came every day. The beds are comfy however the pillows are pointless. We asked for extra pillows which came within 20 mins but even with 2 you couldn't get comfy on them. The room was warm, considering we were there over New Year and turned the radiators down, the room continued to be stuffy and made sleeping uncomfortable. I dread what it is like in summer in the back rooms. The TV guide promised English speaking stations but all you actually got was the DVB-T stations for Munich, all in German. The rooms don't have tea or coffee making facilities, instead you have to use a machine situated in reception which costs €0.80 per cup and delivers drinks in cartons hotter than the sun. Carrying them to the room proved a scorching affair. Considering how little it could cost to provide this facility it seems a little short sighted of the hotel to not provide it. You are however provided 1 bottle of water. Their generosity knew no bounds!
Overall our stay was fine, we had a good time however if going back I wouldn't chose this hotel, ironically, for it's location but also because it is overpriced for what you actually get.
If you are going and you have space in your luggage, take a pillow and a tray!

“Great location, everything else average at best.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012 via mobile

We are frequent visitors to Munich and decided to try this hotel due to its location: right on Karlsplatz next to the entrance to the pedestrian only Marienplatz.

The location is brilliant! It is perfectly located for someone interested in spending time in the tourist areas around the Marienplatz or someone looking to stay for Oktoberfest as it is a very easy walk to the Theriesenweisse. Being located directly next to the Karlsplatz metro stop makes it super convenient to reach anywhere in the city and easy to get to/from the airport.

Unfortunately the hotel itself is nothing special. Single beds pushed together to make a king sized bed were just of average comfort, and the pillows deserve special mention for being the most useless I have ever encountered. The shower was just ok and there is no free wifi. The only positive was the included breakfast, which was made up of standard continental fare.

Truth be told, I would not stay here again.

“Nothing special !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

The location is ok - near city center. Basic breakfast with usual products. Price in front office - 100 e. The value isn't the best you can find. The automatic doors are a little bit creepy for a hotel especially at night!

“We were lucky”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

This is one of the hotels that you cannot find any information about on their website ! They are simply don't want you to know that the front rooms are noisy and the rooms on the quiet side are without air condition and if you open the window you get smells from a kitchen restaurant. Beside that, the TV has only German channels, when we ask for CNN they said that the technician has to tune the channels but 4 days nothing done to fix it. So I guess this is their standard reply to all. This hotel doesn't have WIFI they use MY Cloud Germany net as "their" WIFI and this cost 12.5 Euro per day. You don't need the hotel for this wifi net you can find it in any place over Munich. The room is clean, normal with safe. Breakfast is good. The staff is polite and helpful.
We were lucky to get a quiet room and we almost didn't open the windows, because it was chilly in November.
About the best location it is already written. This is not my standard of hotels, next time it will be my last option of accommodation.

Room Tip: If after all, you decided to go to this hotel, check the room before you take it and find with what...
