“Affordable small hotel close to the art quarter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Antares is a small, cozy, affordable hotel on a side street, walking distance to the Munich art quarter and the LMU university, with good connections from the main station (bus stop round the corner). Rooms are small, clean, rather basic; wi-fi available with extra charge; friendly and helpful service; excellent breakfast with lots of choice. Neighborhood with lots of small cafés and restaurants and interesting art and design shops to explore. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here on a whim during Oktoberfest because they had rooms available in June. The hotel was much closer to the old town and metro than appeared on maps and it was a direct line to the train station and Oktoberfest. The walk to the metro station was approximately 10 minutes and 15 minutes to Marienplatz. The hotel was quiet and the room was nice and clean. It came with a TV, minibar and hairdryer in the bathroom. The best part about staying here was the delicious breakfast served each morning. The breakfast had juice, coffee, cold meats and cheeses, cereal, eggs, bacon and sausage, among other foods. Would stay here again without question. My only complaint is that wifi is not free.

We got a very good deal through a website and, to be honest, were not expecting the hotel to be anything other than in a very good location for sightseeing. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Reception staff and those who worked in the breakfast room. The room was comfortable and adequate, rather than luxurious, but was beautifully clean and very well-serviced each day. Breakfasts were excellent!
Were I to stay again, I think I would ask for a room at the back as there was some street noise, made worse by the fact that we kept the windows open all night as Munich was basking in 28 degrees - in late April!
The Antares had the feel of a family run hotel, which makes a change from big anonymous chains. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back?

We had a very pleasant 4-night stay at the Hotel Antares on our recent pre-Christmas trip to Munich. The location was good with excellent links to public transport and plenty of eateries within walking distance. The superb buffet breakfast is possibly what I'll remember most - a wide selection of breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, salad, yoghurts, pastries and cereals. The service and staff throughout the hotel were friendly, efficient and helpful.

On the down side, the room could have been a little bigger, the beds were very firm which took a while to get used to and the walls were pretty thin. We were often woken up by people talking in neighbouring rooms. Despite that, I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Munich.

Room Tip: There is only a small lift so if you have difficulty with stairs or lots of luggage, it might be bes...

My room was decent, a bed which by Euopean standards was pretty comfortable, a TV, nights stands and a bathroom with a tub and standup shower. The hotel served a good breakfast spread and the staff was friendly and helpful. The best part was the price and how close it was to the Marienplatz and all of the Christmas markets in Munich. Would stay here again.

I can say 2 good things about this hotel. The first is the staff was pretty friendly, and the second is their breakfast was decent. We only stayed at this hotel due to the fact we decided at last minute to go to Oktoberfest and it was about the last one available. The room though was not as clean as I'm comfortable with. It was also extremely small, more like a closet than a room. Also the door only closes if you lock it from the inside which we didn't know till the following morning when I realized the room door was open so anyone could have walked in.

Now about the room key, not only was it 3 pounds, but before you leave for the day you have to give it to the receptionist. Housekeeping started cleaning at the crack of dawn, normally thats not a problem but the walls are so thin and they SLAM the doors. Although breakfast was good, the breakfast area was small so make sure you get there early or there won't be seating. It wouldn't have been so bad if we paid regular price for it but because it was for Oktoberfest the price was raised ENTIRELY too high for what it's worth. I would NOT stay here again.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.
