“Good Hotel near Munich centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

This hotel is situated in a nice quarter in Munich (Lehel). It is in a 10 minutes walking distance to the best shopping district of Munich. And if you like this : also to Hofbraeuhaus. The prices are moderate if you take into account the good location. The rooms are o.k., but the bathroom at least would need urgently refurbishment. If you insist to have your room to the rear side it is very silent (2 doors keep the noise from the corridor away). I can't advertise to take breakfast in the hotel : the coffee tastes like pure succory and is severed in thermos flasks, the self service buffet is very small and cramped and is looking like a battlefield after a few people have visited it. The staff at the service desk is friendly and co-operative (they even help you to get a place for your car on their tiny parking lot if it is already overcrowded). I attended this hotel several times in the last years, and I still think it is of good value (but soon needs some investment to keep its value)

I stayed in this hotel for one night for business. It's a little tired looking, but the standard of cleanliness in my room was high and nothing to complain about if you're looking not to pay too much for this location. The breakfast was fine, continental only, but fresh and good quality. A half hour stroll on foot from the hotel didn't turn up much in the way of places to eat - a tradtiinal bierkeller restaurant just round the corner and a pizza place - but a little online research might prove this wrong.

We (me, my wife and our nearly 2 year old daughter) were very impressed with this hotel. The room was pretty big, spotlessly clean and very warm in the cold weather in Munich. Sheets were clean and the duvet was thick - we even found the requested baby cot already up in the room on arrival which doesn't happen often. The staff were helpful when requested, breakfast was pretty good and plentiful.

The hotel is well positioned - only 10 or so minute walk to the Marienplatz, so the fact that there aren't too many restaurants (other than Italian ones it seems!) in the surrounding streets, it's easy to find drinks and dinner close. The hotel is great for the beautiful Englischer Garten - a five minute walk away.

The linen and curtains were badly stained. What was supposed to be white linen looked brown. Totally put off. Think it's safe to say I will never book here again. I needed an affordable clean hotel ended up with a hotel with dirty linen. The staff left much to b desired. Not friendly at all.

had read quite a few bad reviews about this hotel so was abit worried. but turned out ok. stayed for 3 nights. it was really just somewhere for us to sleep as we were out all day. rooms are average. was 2 single beds pushed together and 2 single blankets. bathroom was very clean. mini bar in room. u bahn is just a few streets away. quiet area, a few restaurants nearby and a shop. other reviews had said the staff were rude. i thought they were quite nice. probably just a language barrier thats makes people think they are rude. wifi is 9 euro for 24 hours. but overall had a nice stay.

I stayed in the Golden Leaf (Lehel) in early June 2012. Some things I can pass on to prosepctive guests are as follows -

1) Location is ok (3/5)

Positives -
Close to trains and only 1 or 2 stops to city centre. Couple of good restaurants nearby, also adjacent to English Garden.

Negatives -
It's a part of town (socially speaking) where little seems to happen, everything closes early (mon - thur), but this is fairly typical of Germany.

It's very noisy in the morning. Traffic and general city noise.

2) Rooms above average (4/5)

Positives -
The rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. Single rooms were large and good closet space.

Negatives -
As I said, very noisy in the mornings. No air-con, could be a major problem in hot weather. Wasn't hot when I was there, but I did have to keep the window open all day as room would have been too stuffy otherwise.

3) Staff not good (1/5)

Unfortunately, I have to be very critical of the staff. They were not friendly, helpful or welcoming. Very cold and preoccupied every time they were approached. Would generally ignore you unless you approached them, i.e. no "hello" "good morning" "enjoy your evening". I cannot over-emphasise how unfriendly, cold and distant the staff are in this hotel.

As a result of this, I cannot reccomend anyone other than a person on business for one night, to stay here. If you're on your holidays (as I was) avoid, you'll feel like you're staying in a prison.
