3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

The Holiday Inn Munich is a big Hotel right ouside the old town of Munich. Tons of tourists and business people lead to a very uncosy atmosphere - and the service is also not excellent. Breakfast: To many people, to less service. So ok, if you get it for a good price. If not, take another hotel

This is my second stay at this hotel. Both times the hotel has been an excellent choice for my family! Very elegant, great location within the city of Munich, access to the metro, and finally great service providing personnel. I always will speak strongly of this hotel as a place to stay when visiting the area. It is worth it!

I have not eaten at the hotel as I am in Munich and a short walk from the open air markets, cafes', and imbisses. The pool looks great as well, but again, have not tried it yet.

Room Tip: Both rooms i have stayed have been great!

Picked this hotel for location as it is directly accessible from subway station. Just a few subway stops from Octoberfest and/or downtown Munich. Nice lobby bar and restaurant. Rooms quite sufficient and quiet.

Room Tip: Priority Club floors offer no special amenities different than any other floors. Big hotel and room...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during Oktoberfest. The checkin process was slow but this was probably due to the fact that we checked in at the start of Oktoberfest and the queues to checkin were long. This should be noted so that more staff are put on at this time and people don't get annoyed at the wait after long flights and drives to get there. The room was quite spacious and clean. The Holiday Inn does not provide FREE wifi which is a real let down. In this day and age people require access to banking and emails and to request guests to pay for this when most hotels all over the world provide free wifi is a joke. Pleasant stay but not fabulous.

Dear DavidS255060,

Thank you for taking the time to make some comments about your stay at the Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre.
The comments of our guests are very valuable for us and give us the opportunity to constantly adjust our services to the needs and expectations of our clients.
We are sorry for the long waiting times at the reception. Oktoberfest might be a reason but we always do our best to guarantee a fast check in /out.
As we are one of the biggest conference centres in south of Germany we have to assure a high speed internet connection. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to offer WIFI for free.
Dear DavidS255060, we really hope you will continue to chosse the Holiday Inn Munich Ctiy Centre for your future travel needs.

Kind regards from Munich,
Julia Hug

Nice hotel. Very popular. Breakfast was great. Location was very good, just go downstairs and hop on the s-Bhan. Few things could be improved on like complimentary water in rooms for guests, we were meeting friends and requested rooms together prior to arrival, this was ignored even though we both asked at check in. Indoor pool was absolutely freezing. This was the main reason we booked this hotel as my child loves swimming. One visit and I refused to even go in and he refused to go swimming for the rest of the stay. Otherwise a lovely stay.

Our engineers have to check the pool temperature daily. It normally has 28 degrees. I am very sorry that the indoor pool was too cold during your stay.
We hope you and your family will choose the Holiday Inn Munich City Centre again for your future travel needs.

We stayed at here in the second week of September on the top floor with a city view.
GOOD POINTS.
We found the room very clean and modern with a comfortable queen sized bed, the room was well equipped and had tea and coffee making kit and space in the minibar/fridge for personal use. The view of the city was great in the morning sunshine and also as the sun set. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English. The location was great, an interesting fifteen minute walk from Marienplatz. The hotel is above a shopping mall with bakeries, cafes and two supermarkets, and that was above an S bahn station with direct links to the airport, old town centre and main train station.
LESS GOOD POINTS
When it gets busy, checking in or out can take more than fifteen minutes, allow for this. The TV in our room was pre flatscreen and not all the features mentioned on the menu worked, (not a big loss really). Only two news channels were in English so we usually found one of the local channels showing wildlife or countryside more relaxing to watch. We thought the price for breakfast was too high for the amount we normally eat, so we ate out locally. When we first arrived we struggled to find the way to the hotel from the S bahn platform as we took the wrong escalator, to avoid this problem ensure you leave the platform at the end furthest from the airport (head for the front of the train), go up this escalator and turn left into the mall, don’t go up anymore escalators but keep going through the mall to the far end, on the left see the lift/ steps into the Hotel, there are signs on the way but we missed them.
BAD POINTS
The only bad point was that when I changed the booking on the website to a queen bed, the number of people mysteriously changed to three! I immediately contacted central bookings, who corrected things and sent me a corrected invoice. Many months later on the eve of our stay I logged into the booking and found it quoting four people in the queen bed!!! I corrected the number of people to two and my booking altered to a double bed!!! I tried to correct this error but neither central booking nor I had any joy. I rang the reception desk on the morning of our stay and was told the booking was for three people in a room with a queen plus a spare bed (as existed for ten minutes in January), and the correction or any later changes weren’t passed on to the hotel! This caused us to be walking round an unwanted spare bed for our stay, and a problem with the bill (a charge for a non existent third person) fortunately the bill was quickly amended on production of our corrected invoice (from January). Any future bookings I make won’t be through this website!

Room Tip: The view toward the city is very good, the view over the shopping mall roof isn't, you decide if...

Stayed here for one night for a quick visit to Oktoberfest and Munich. Though it's called "City Centre" it's really located just outside of it, but still very close. A 20 minute walk or so, but just a few S-Bahn stops from the main sights. Even better, it's located right on the main lines and attached to a kind of mall, so getting around is very easy, as well as picking anything up you might need like food or toiletries.

Reception is usually very busy (it's a big hotel, so that makes sense), but everyone gets helped fast enough and everyone was friendly. There's a bar and computers for internet in the lobby as well. There's a restaurant as well, but their breakfast is ridiculously overpriced.

Room was a nice size, had a comfortable bed, nice clean bathroom, big tub, and minibar/coffee maker. The room even had air conditioning, a feature all but unheard of here in Germany. The bed had different types of pillows, with the option for others if you wanted. Very nice. My room was on the third floor overlooking the main street, but was perfectly quiet all night.

The TV is very old, and mine was kind of flickery. Only two English channels (CNN and BBC News), as well as a few options in French, Italian, and Arabic. There was one English movie on demand.

In-room internet, like the breakfast, is laughably expensive. So is the minibar, but that's to be expected.

All in all, I'd certainly stay there again. Location is key and we could get to downtown or Oktoberfest in just minutes.

Dear Shrubbo,

Thank you very much for your feedback on Trip Advisor
We highly appreciate you including the Holiday Inn Munich – City Centre in your travel plans.
It is our first goal to consistently provide superior service and accommodation.
Our modern styled guest rooms are indeed still equipped with old fashioned TVs. But new Flat Screens are already in planning for the beginning of 2013.
Due to the buffet situation and the wide range of food we can not offer the breakfast at a reduced rate. But we recommend to book a rate including breakfast in advance. This is much cheaper.
Thank you again for your recommendation.
We look forward to welcoming you once again to Munich and to our hotel.

Kind regards,
Julia
