“Average hotel, nothing special”

The Hilton is a relatively large hotel that is usually bustling with tourists, business travelers and airline crews. The bar downstairs is busy on most nights, although most people sit with those they came with rather than socializing amongst groups. The rooms are average and despite the description a "king" bed is really two twin beds pushed together each with its own duvet comforter. The bathroom is the most disappointing part of the room with water that switches between hot and cold and large step up into the bathtub/shower. Make sure you always put the privacy sign on the door otherwise the maid will walk right in at 7 AM and there is no chain on the door to keep her out. Overall the Hilton is average. If you can get a decent rate and are traveling on a budget it's nice enough but there are much better hotels in Munich.

“Nice!”

Hilton Munich City

Jul 7, 2007

Stayed here for one night in the beginning of July 2007 and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I had to stay here as the Novotel just down the road was overbooked.

When walking into the lobby you tend to think that this is one of these places (once again) that badly needs some decorating. But none of this. The rooms were very light, roomy and comfy. This hotel basically offers you everuthing you need as a business traveller. Good desk and working space, quick high-speed internet and enough space to store all your stuff.

“Easy access to train”

It's what you'd expect from a Hilton: clean & comfortable rooms, but not much character.

The best thing about this hotel is the train stop underneath. It's even better once you find the elevator that takes you there directly, which isn't very obvious.

Internet access is available but expensive. I preferred to go just across the street to the internet/game cafe that's open late. Unfortunately I can't remember its name, but it's almost directly across from the main hotel entrance.

Hilton City Center was very convenient to the city sights with next door access to the city's subway system. Rooms were large for European standards and spotless. Front desk was very helpful, but breakfast was not included in the price, unusual for Germany. There are several wonderful bakeries nearby.

“Perfect for a family break”

Hilton Munich City

Jun 12, 2007

I stayed with my family ( husband and two teenage children ) at the Hilton for 5 days at the end of May. We chose the Hilton ( I have stayed at the Torbrau before ), because f the great rate we got on the Hilton website. With teenage children, hotels can be tricky as you don’t necessarily want them in your room but you want them very near by. The Hilton gave us two interconnecting rooms, and the room for the children was half price. Our room was 116 euros and the kids was 58 including the buffet breakfast ( which should have been 20 Euros each ) – this was fantastic value. The communication with the hotel by email before we arrived was all excellent.

We had also decided that we didn’t want to hire a car whilst in Munich, and the Hilton was very well located for this. It could not have been easier to get to from the airport, and to get around central Munich, it was easier to get on and off the S-Bahn, than finding parking spaces whenever we went out. We were also able to walk easily in to town, to the Volksbad, and to the Museum.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant, and the rooms was clean and bright. The TV had about 30 channels in a number of European languages ( and had the BBC news channel which I prefer to CNN – which it also had ). The hotel also booked our tour to Neuschwanstein and Lindenberg castles ( highly recommended ) – and the coach picks you up at the hotel.

Whilst in Munich we took a day trip to Salzburg, using the local train system. We also went to the Englisher Garden. In the evenings we ate at the Ratskeller, a local Italian restaurant, and on the last night we went to the Hofbrau House ( an experience not to be repeated ).

This was a fantastic vacation. Munich is a wonderfully accessible city. It has plenty to see and do and is also very clean, very safe and very friendly. Our two teenagers were welcomed everywhere ( Beer gardens welcomed them, and provided soft drinks ), and the Hilton was an excellent base for the vacation. The only reason that it doesn’t rate a 5, is that it is not a quaint local hotel, and if I was in Munich for one night I would want to be right in the city centre – I wish I could give a 4.5.
