“Munich Municipal Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

This is a small museum filled with interesting local history, art and craft exhibits. The museum is well laid out and exhibits are well marked. It is clean and modern. The museum is near the city center and easy to walk to. It is a great break from activities such as shopping or a destination among many other beautiful sites in Munich.

“Small museum with some interesting stuff about Munich”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

I'm very interested in local history and this is a small museum with some interesting things but not a great collection and not all that well laid out. I do read German so that helped me a lot. Worth seeing were some of the very old art works like the carved wooden Morris Dancers from the 1400s as well as the carved wooden model of the city from the 1500s.

“Pointless unless you can read German”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012 via mobile

While this museum might be good I cannot really say as I cannot read German and there is very little support for non-Germans. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to understanding more about Munich.

“Skip This Museum If You Do Not Speak German”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

I had great hopes before I visited this museum. When I got there I found that there were few exhibits and all the explanations were in German. I do not speak German, so I was unable to understand anything. There is an exhibit of medieval armor, and that was the only thing I understood.

“Worth a visit if you have time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

This was a good little museum close to the Marienplatz and the Isartor. While I was there, there was an interesting exhibit containing 100 Nazi-era posters and placards, 1933-1945, divided by year and each with a good description in GErman and English about the implications and times surrounding its posting. There was a permanent exhibit on Munich's history since its founding 850 years ago, as well as another exhibit about the Olympics and Munich since the '70s. A short film of images from 4 decades ('70s through the '00s) provided a nice visual description of life in Munich.

Unfortunately I missed the section on the rise of National Socialism, which I wish I'd seen. This museum is definitely worth a trip if you're interested in the history of this great city--but if you only have time for one museum on your trip, skip it and visit the Deutsches Museum.
