“Great value for a clean well maintained room in the center of old Munich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012 via mobile

We are stayed 5 nights and this is a great value. The rooms are small but clean and well maintained. The hosts are very friendly and provide lots of information about the surrounding area. I would definitely stay here again compared to the bland hotels near the main train station.

Breakfast had traditional German fare - fresh rolls, cheese, meat, muesli, yogurt, fruit, and coffee. Nicer than pre-packaged cheese/meat and several mornings we had speck or Camembert.

The shared hall toilet was not a problem at all. Most other pension guests were courteous as it's small and sound carries. One couple with a small child, was a bit loud but it settled down before midnight. If you were right next to a person who came in late and loud or noisy children for many days that might get old, but that happens even in nice hotels. It's also probably quieter than the pension upstairs that has more roms.

The surrounding area is oddly quiet for being so close to the Marienplatz. In the summer, the tables from the Afghan restaurant below (very good food) could get loud if you had the window open so room 4 on the back side might be better then.

All in all, a great value.

You cannot beat this location, period. It's located just off a pedestrian only street just 2 blocks from Marienplatz and subway, u-bhan, train connections to everywhere. If you like traveling light and local - this is it.

Christoph and Phillip are very warm, kind and helpful with requests for the type of travel you like. The breakfast room is small but welcoming with an always-available hot pot for tea/coffee. Breakfast is just right with juices, breads, cereals, hams, yogurt, espresso, etc. My one suggestion is that the breakfast time is a little late (8:00 daily, 9:00 on weekends and holidays) - most places we have stayed usually have breakfast 7:30 inclusive of weekends.

We stayed for 6 nights in room 4. Two of the rooms have bathrooms ensuite (1 and 4). Room 1 has an entrance directly to the outside hallway. For my personal safety comfort, I would choose Room 1 or one of the other 2 rooms because we found the alleyway door left open no less than a dozen times! I liked having one more layer of doors/locks.

Our room was basic and small, but the bath was very ample. The towels were not changed during our stay - ?because we didn't throw them on the floor? The tv has an odd way of connecting and we needed a lesson to get it to work. We thought it was broken.

The internet was excellent except for the 2 evenings that 2 power- business users set up to work in the breakfast room. We experience some noise from above for 3 nights (sounded like furniture being rearranged for 2 hours extending past 10:00 pm) . . but I use a "white noise" program to compensate for being a light sleeper and it was fine.

We did enjoy our stay all-in-all and would definitely return because this central location in the heart of Munchen is perfect, along with fine places to eat within blocks.

Room Tip: Pick room 1 if you want bath ensuite for extra security. Otherwise the 2 interior rooms. Ask Christo...

Stayed for 2 nights this weekend - one of the best B&Bs I've stayed in. The location is a 2 min walk from Marianplatz and that coupled with a price of 80EUR makes this pension unbeatable. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the breakfast had a wide variety of choice. What made it particularly fantastic was the personal service provided by the Christoph, Philip and Peter who all had great tips/stories to share which really helped us make the most of our time in Munich. Thanks guys, and hope to see you again soon!

The Pension is located on a quiet street, maybe 3 mintues walking distance from Marienplatz. What could be more perfect, location-wise? You are literally minutes away from world-class shopping, tourist attractions, great restaurants. You take the S8 train from the Flughafen (Airport) and are in Marienplatz within 35-40 minutes. And then walk to the Pension.
The pension basically is a four-bedroom apartment. One of the bedrooms (ours) has a private shower and toilet. The rooms are small by US standards but more than adequate for a couple.
Christoph is a very reliable, friendly host and he and his associates (whom you see at breakfast every morning) will give you tips for your tours. They always had great dining suggestions for us. I would stay there in a heart beat if I was ever to return to Munich.
Having said that, at 160 Euros for a double, it is expensive to stay there. But really you are paying for the location.
The breakfast does not include any warm foods. No eggs or sausages. Though we found the cold cuts, juices, tea, coffee, cereal and yoghurt more than adequate.

Room Tip: There is only one room which private shower and toilet.

The room was nice and the location unbeatable. It was walking distance to most attractions, and also great for morning runs in the area parks. The breakfast was good and the owner and his son were both helpful.

Pension am Jakobplatz is within easy walking distance to all of oldtown Munich. You cannot beat the combination of perfect location and friendly hosts. Our hosts were very prompt with replys to emails and reservation requests. Someone (English speaking) was there at breakfast each day to answer any questions we had and to give suggestions for our visit as needed. We had Room 4, which has it's own bathroom. As others have mentioned, the rooms are European size, so small by US standards, but very comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure (these are two things that can make or break a room for us). We will stay here on our future visits to Munich.

After a business trip, I wanted to spend a couple of days in Munich. As this was Octoberfest-time, all accommodation prices were more or less doubled, thus also this pension. 150 Eur/night for a single person is steep, the regular price reasonable.
The common area is cosy and everything is spotlessly clean. Cristoph and his son are pleasant, nice hosts, all communication was prompt and informative, on location advice what/where/when is freely given and valuable.
The room (n:o 2) was on the small side, and fortunately the other guests were quiet, as the noise isolation between rooms is not very good.
The core asset of this pension is its location, walking distance to Marienplatz, where you have access to everywhere. It gets no more central in Munich!
I can also recommend the afghan restaurant in the same house.
This would be ideal to a group, which would require all or most of the rooms, then you could really feel like home.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 4 have their own facilities, 2 and 3 share the toilet.
